Yea I have found some MONSTER flushes in the irrigated patches this year, definitely can't complain about that.

Gymnopilus luteofolius likes big wood chip piles, but Psilocybes like more spread out wood chips.  They need to have been out there for a couple years, otherwise they are too new to be colonized.  All wood chip mushrooms are good indicator species for all other woodchip mushrooms.

Thanks Alan... I've spotted quite a few large beds
All over the bay area...
Now I know not to bother too much on looking at
The big piles at parks and so on.  Haven't seen too
Many woodchip mushrooms, some inkys but that's
About it.  Guys posting pics of their irrigated beds
Got me all Jelly.

Hey guys, I'm new to hunting but will also be at the Dec 7th thing in SF. Hope to meet some cool people there and find something also.

I'm also new to this whole mushroom hunting thing and I'm a little confused about where exactly I should be looking... obviously areas with wood chips, but is there any specific environment where allenii's are particularly well suited? I've been looking around in the Berkeley hills but found nothing. I think its been too dry for most patches to fruit, but hopefully this latest rain will give me better luck hunting this weekend. Definitely will post pics once I can actually locate a patch!

GOOD LUCK LET THE HUNTING BEGIN!

Sadly, I think the recent brutal winds got rid of a lot of moisture.

Anyway, I'm hoping December will bring a bigger fruiting period. I think mushrooms can be found in the Bay Area as late as March. Also, Subs can be found in the Spring.

@Applesmasher- I don't mind seeing them go back to the Earth.  I always feel like I shouldn't pick them all anyways.

I went out today and found some very dried out specimens.  Mother nature dried them out so I dont have to!
