Faceting stones... Anyone got a machine by chance?

Why do faceting machines have to be so much money, why cant it be easier to take a rough stone and turn it into a beautiful faceted beauty?
Ugh I wish there was another method other than buying a $1000+ machine.
Any ideas? Or does anyone have a faceting machine? Id be willing to pay for someone to facet and finish raw gemstones for me

There is a flat hand faceted. You have a angled sop stick and cut with basically diamond sand paper.

I don't facet, but cut, grind, polish, and knap about everything else in my lapidary. there are a lot of faceters out there and unless you have exceptional material that is hard for others to get their hands on or have a mine of your own, you will blend in with everyone else. if this is just for a hobby, then try going to a local rock shop and look for a used unit. CL is also another great place for used lapidary supplies. I just got a silver casting centrifuge but i'll probably never get into faceting. I like free form cabochons.

Yeah Im just starting wire wrapping so I wanna be able to make rough, raw stones easier to wrap. What tools do you use for cutting, grinding and polishing? Any tips you can give? Its just a hobby and I was hoping to find a way to cut or grind the stones in a faceted fashion with maybe a point.

here's some fire obsidian that i dig and polish. I use a foredom with nova resin bond points to carve and get to pre-polish, then polished with cerium oxide on hard felt.

You might be able to get by using a dremel. I don't know what kind of material you are working with, but I can do small polishing and grinding jobs on agate with one. It's not gonna cut big slabs but you definitely round out corners and dent up rocks with a decent dremel.

if you want to bubble dive fire agate then you need a dremel or foredom, either one on a flex shaft. the bits are relatively cheap.

I've never used a foredom, I assume they are similar to a dremel but better?

you got it. dremel makes a flex shaft model too though. the pedal is also really nice for speed, easy start and stopping.
