does the look like healthy rhizo growth on agar?
    #19132023 - 11/13/13 04:22 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

I plucked a few pieces of myc from a contaminated jar and threw it on a dish.  This is the best looking one so far but its outgrown its section of the dish. Does this look like healthy rhizo growth that I should continue isolating?

welp, just talked to an astronaut in space and they said that he could see that photo on my computer and it was rhizomorphic growth.

if you strictly want rhizomorphic growth i would say isolate again. it looks a little fuzzy up top between 9 and 11 o'clock and between 1 and 4 o'clock. i would suggest that you isolate at 12 o'clock and anywhere from 9 o'clock to 4 o'clock would be good.

Not sure what you mean by "twisting up", but I would take the following transfers.

First section on the left:

Anywhere from 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock.

Also from between 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock.

Nothing from the one on the right.

From the one on the bottom:

9 o'clock

Between 1 and 4 o'clock.

That is healthy rhizomorphic growth.

I ended up taking transfers from 8 o clock, 12 o clock, and 2 to 3 o clock on the top left section, bottom right I took 6 o clock. Total of 4 transfers

First agar isolate log with PICS (2nd petri transfer) [Re: PussyFart]
    #19158639 - 11/19/13 08:23 AM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Here r the results of my last transfer.... I did not post the piece of mycelium from the 6 o clock on plate 2 because  it hasn't finished growing yet. Everything from the first plate has though. The transfer i took from 2-3 oclock is top left, 12 is top right, and 8 is the bottom

if u want to isolate further, try to cut only the very tip of the rizomorphic sector
just the tip of that single rope and transfer it to a plate
im talking about the section from 9-12o clock

I honestly think you need to up the nutrient content in your agar just a bit.....if you plan on isolating that is...

It would just make things easier....the mycellium will not stretch out like that, and sectors should be more noticeable....

Should i just use the top left section then for transfers and forgot about the other two. I may use the other two for grain innoc, if so.  Should I cut the thickest rope? Which one do I choose?

i think so. if u are on the project of looking for the most rizomorphic one,

the red ones, and i would also try the blue, if u have enough dish
