These days I'm not willing to take the risk. Because we really don't know who's capable of what.
Lol...get you a copy of one of stamets' books before you jump into this and wonder why it's all going to hell. I think stem butt cloning could be a good start for your purposes.
Still not interested in a button from a supermarket especially. Theres no market for them at all. And I don't know where they have been or what they've been through.
I have a couple of his books and am currently reading Mycelium Running.

there are markets that sell more than just button mushrooms. When i visit the Asian market they have at least 4 varieties of mushrooms - shiitake, enoki, king oyster, lions mane and maybe others i cant recall.

Well I'm glad your so fortunate. We have buttons, buttons, buttons, and buttons. Not even organic. Science lab filth that nobody really knows what has been done to it.

If you don't like science you are in the wrong place, sir. A lab is essential for large scale cultivation. But I agree, buttons are likely sprayed with chemicals and therefore undesirable.

Yup. Better stay away from that 'science lab filth'. Commercial mushroom factories are kept extremely clean, especially the lab. There are no chemicals sprayed, and there is no such thing as 'GMO' mushrooms.
Unless of course you consider lab work such as selective subculturing and strain development 'GMO', which most of us on here do every day.
You know, I have given at least 60 people on here cultures without expecting anything in return. This is one of the most generous communities I have seen online. But you wouldn't want one of my cultures anyway, since after all they are from my filthy science lab.
