contaminated. Sorry. Try hitting the fluffy white stuff with a q-tip if anything rubs off it is more than likely s bacterial contamination from the inside of the cake.

The q-tip test was debunked years ago.
Bruised mycellium rubs off giving a false positive.

xelzin, just make a shotgun fruiting chamber(terrarium with holes on the 6 SIDE,) and it should be elevated so the bottom holes can breath.
for that u would need a HEPA running 24/7 open a fresh agar plate in your CLEAN room for 30seconds, then close it back put it into your incubator, let me know how clean the air is...
There are literally 20-50,000 Microbial particles in a cubic meter of air. Simply birthing your cakes exposes them to measurable quantities of mold spores and bacteria. What keeps them safe is a fully developed myclieum colony that can covers the entire surface, leaving no viable surface area for contaminants to gain a foothold. Every time you fan, mold spores are getting onto your cakes. A consolidated myclieum colony has a substantial immune system. Penicillin is the result of Penicillium mold repelling bacteria.
The myclieum will weaken eventually and stop producing mushrooms and get overrun by a parasitic mold, one or the other first. No matter how sterile the room.
A SGFC as the others have said is a container with holes every 6 inches.

I just meant that it doesn't loo like myc. If it is oozing, when you hit it with a qtip you will tell weather that white stuff is a by product of bacteria or.NYC.

you trollin?? you can't compare agar that is a simple substrat to a fully colonised living organisme..

It doesnt look like a contam it looks mycelium, but either humidity os too high or fae bc i dont believe pins will form on that mycelium if it allowed to stay in its current condition.. it looks just like extreme overlay on a casing

A few months ago, I 'jokingly' said I'd ban the next person who asked an overlay question and it worked . . .until now.
What happens is one person asks about overlay, and for the next six months, every new grower thinks he has overlay.
I can guarantee you don't have it, since I've only seen it a handful of times, and I've been known to have grown a few projects in my day. Full colonization of the casing layer is not overlay. Give lots of fresh air and light, while misting a few times daily and you'll fruit soon. RR

So if humidity is over 100% plus its not too high? What exactly causes a cake to blow up like the Op's, bc ive seen pics of cakes swell out with so much mycelium befre they are about the size of a basketball…

How would that even be possible?
100% is 100% for a reason.....that is the maximum....
You cannot have 105% humidity....

Lack of FAE, contams, or other anomalies.....but not too much humidity, or too much FAE.....You want the humidity to be as high as possible, and you want as much fresh air as possible......

And no you want 100% humidity if anything variations in that will help contams grow mushies like humidity.

Not true at all....contams help contams grow, not low humidity.
You want the humidity to fluctuate, because you want evaporation to take place.

2bittoker, it's every 2 inches. Not 6.
Humidity over 100% = rain
Nah is a good source to quote. Op, listen to his advice.
