substrate pasteurization temps
    #19156295 - 11/18/13 07:14 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

so i have a bit of a problem with the temps while pasteurizing. currently its sitting at 133F after 50 minutes in the pot, and is starting to dwindle down. it maxed at 135F. is this sufficient? or do i need to reheat to get it up towards the 160 mark?

i just dont want to over heat and end up sterilizing the substrate, but i also dont want an un-pasteurized substrate either!

any advice?

135 isn't high enough you'll want to reheat but not sure when to kill the heat. I'd say when it reaches 140 kill it. Just my 2 cents

Keep the temp between 140 and 160 for 60 minutes. If you kill the heat at 140, it should climb to under 160 and start to fall, normally the time would be up before it gets below 140 but if it gets close I would turn it back on till it stops falling or the time is up whichever comes first.

gotcha, i guess thats what ill do. appreciate it (:

ive had the heat on now for about 15 minutes though, and it has only risen 1 degrees :/

edit: scratch that, it boosted up in temp very quickly after the 20min mark lol. now i just hope it doesnt go above 160.. i think itll make it there for sure though with the way its moving now!
