I'm Just So Happy!

I'm just so happy at this point! Yes...I'm a noob, in all aspects! Started with BRF cakes, moved to G2G with WBS pretty quickly with the encouragement of a couple of people here on the Shroomery. My first try at a monotub, spawning to bulk, was time consuming, long, took too much patience..lol...and a bit of expense to get the necessities! It was a disaster! If you are in those same shoes, don't give up...I didn't! I've read and read and read, researched and ask advice. I'm now moving on and so happy with the success so far.
Albino, spawned to bulk on 11/16, showing good signs of colonization so far!

More Albino, already did G2G, looks like it might be ready for spawning by the weekend to another tub.

20 jars of Z Strain, did G2G on 11/16 and they are showing good signs of recovery. Will give them another day or so and do a little shake. Thinking they will be ready for their own tubs in a week or so.

So, with all this being said. I am so happy with the progress and if I can just get ONE successful monotub I will be the happiest girl in the whole USA! Hey, wasn't that a song!
Just thought I would share! Have a good one. Advice, comments, etc always welcome...just don't beat me up....I did say I am a noob! I'm a smart, beautiful one though!
Oh, yea, doing a few BRF cakes too but I swear I have NO luck with these anymore.
 darn they are sideways...sorry.

Well then it's all frank because he taught me everything I know!
Your tub looks perfect. That's how mine always look in 3 days.
My tubs are like clock work. They're always fully colonized in 5 or 6 days and I always see pins in 15 to 17 days (from the date of spawning)

Thanks for asking. I did 6 quarts colonized grain (spawn) to 1 brick of coir and 2 quarts of verm. So, basically on the high side of a 50/50...I think that's how you calculate it. Someone will no doubt correct me if I am stating it wrong! But, that's what I did!

That's the ratio I always use. A brick is about 8 qts plus the 2 qts verm so it works out to about 6 qts spawn to 10 qts bulk substrate. It's about 1:2

Just an update for anyone watching.
Monotub #1 spawned on 11-16, below is it today 11-20. Looking great so far, thinking it will go into fruiting this coming weekend. SO excited!

Started a 2nd Monotub on 11-19. Already seeing a glimmer of colonization...very happy about that!

Other 20 G2G jars did 1st shake, recovering nicely, thinking will have to put together a few more mono's this weekend maybe!
Still happy! Someone said my holes look a little large. For reference, I used the hot soup can method, but will try a smaller can on the additional mono's.
Happy Growing All!

hey ms angelique,
love that enthusiasm...i can tell you're gonna be a great mushroom grower! tub #1 looks ready to fruit to me...you got some fast colonization goin on there.
everythang's lookin great but i was going to mention something about the holes as well...just make sure to stuff those bottom ones super tight. hopefully it wont be too big of an issue for ya though. remember you can fan & mist those things once you've got FAE going on to help keep up the humidity. I would suspect its going end up being a little low in there without some attention. recently I've started doing a heavy fanning & misting daily when I start to see my fruits getting just past little pins and have had great results, so I wouldn't worry about over doing it as long as you're spraying it on the sides of the tub. for future reference I believe most of us are using 1.5" holes drilled with a bit like this
good luck n happy shroomin!

Hey, thanks PirateSwazey for the feedback. Yea, I am super excited. I already have these two monos made. My next few I will use smaller hole drilling for sure. Here's hoping for the good results. Advice, comments, always welcome!

Its because of the ratings weighting system. Only people who have either given very few ratings or all 0 shroom ratings can actually give a five. If you gave 100 0 ratings your five shroom rating would be worth a lot. Conversely there is at least one mod who gave out so many 5 shroom ratings that a zero from them would be worth -10.

When you give a rating your not giving the rating you think. Depending on what kinds of ratings you tend to give, will weight the ratings you give. If you give a lot if five shroom rates, your fives will not be worth a full five, but you zeros will be worth negative numbers giving more weight to the zero when you do give one. This has been built into the system but not many people are aware of it. There is a thread on it somewhere.
If you wanted to know what your weighting was you would need a mod to look it up for you as the calculator is not available to everyone.
So the reason you have a four is because the person who rated you probably gives a lot of five shroom rates, so you will need to collect a few more of those to total it up to five, and preferably from people who either don't rate a lot or give out a lot of negative ratings.

Finally!! I have finally succeeded in getting a monotub to fruit! It sure has been a trial and error. You can never read enough and everyone's advice on here is invaluable! But, I made it! Out of 8 tubs....2 turned a beautiful shade of green...lol. 3 are pinning and fruiting nicely and 3 others appear close to full colonization. Thought I would share a pic.
Some veils tore overnight. Getting ready to do a little cutting. Think I might buy myself an expensive bottle of wine tonight and eat one of these sweet boys!

Remember to isolate on agar for best stable results, else contam is always a real risk
after flush, clone a piece of the stem of a shroom onto agar plate
then isolate away from possible contams and you got a monoculture quickly
then transfer into a LC culture and use syringe to innoc first jar each time, before G2G good way of storing the culture, can be stored as isolate for years it seems you could also just keep making jars of course :-) never run out, just keep doing G2G all the time PC before bed, G2G in the morning
if you do it right(cloning/isolation) you will get a better yield than MS usually, and perhaps even more potent shrooms/more stable potency between flushes
I hope to try WBS+G2G + wormcasting/coir one day :-) that will be quite the feast, they might grow through the mono
+ wormcastings can be found at any garden center the only issue might be pH maybe...
else compost should also be very good, maybe better than coir

Not only were these tubs done with sterilized coir and verm, but I opened them several times to check their progress. Spawn runs are not a sterile process. Got a couple more just like em almost ready.

I never said spawn runs are a sterile process, but you're removing co2 and introducing further outside spores which can take hold of an uncolonized substrate.

Well that's different. Fully colonized spawn is contaminant resistent. A half colonized mono is different. I'd still say it's contaminant resistent, but you're certainly opening a window for competitors by opening them up when they're not ready to fruit.

Just because it works for you doesn't mean it's a good idea. I've done a lot of things in the past that have worked that I would not recommend others follow just because it worked for me.

I don't think you fully grasp the bulk spawning concept. The reason we use pasteurized bulk substrate is so we can spawn in open air.
If you spawned your tub in open air you can be sure plenty of foreign spores got in there during the process. Opening the tub every now and then to take a peek is not going to increase the risk for contamination. If you used clean fully colonized spawn and pastureized substrate then you have nothing to worry about

Fact of the matter is that opening for a quick peek is not going to dissipate your CO2 unless you sit there fanning it out. I suspect that even if you did that it would just build up again quick enough and not hurt a thing. As for your implication that your introducing competitors, are you implying that you didn't introduce a few million when you spawned it in open air? Trust me they are still there.
Sorry to derail the thread OP. My request for a top down pic still stands

this is highly unlikely, just because you expose your colonizing substrate to air doesnt mean it instantly can get trich etc.
its usually bad spawn, or improper pasteurization
anyway congrats those look wonderful, go get yourself a bottle.

If you gave 100 0 ratings your five shroom rating would be worth a lot. Conversely there is at least one mod who gave out so many 5 shroom ratings that a zero from them would be worth -10.
