substrate ratio check
    #19154999 - 11/18/13 04:02 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

i know i posted about this a few days ago, but i just wanted to confirm that i did this correctly. i literally just filled a bucket with my substrate materials, and im waiting for it to soak.

the ratio is as follows

half brick of coir (325g)
1 quart vermiculite
1 1/2 cup gypsum
2 quarts warm water

this is going into a mini-mono tonight and i just want to make sure its all right!

If you're going to be properly pasteurizing it, yeah, that looks about right.  The gypsum is way more than I'd use--I probably wouldn't go more than a half cup, but that's just me.  I remember the night I spawned my first mini-mono.

haha yeah i overdid it on the gypsum. but id heard that more cant hurt, so i went overboard on this one :p

thanks for the answer! i cant wait to get this set up!!!!

ive got one more inquiry though. another thing i brought up before.. but i want one last opinion.

mini-mono or MSG? i have 2 tubs so i may just try both at some point. but for now i only have materials for one tub so what should i do?!

I definitely recommend mini-monos, which have been very kind to me and a few fellow growers I know personally.

right on, thats what i was leaning towards anyway so thats perfect.

ill be placing two 1.5in holes at 4 inches from the bottom, and 2 1.5in holes about 1in from the top? then tape em up and stick the tub in a black bag next to my space heater. once its done, tightly pack polyfill in the bottom holes, and loosely in the top holes. am i on the right track?

If your high-up are on the short sides and your low holes are on the long sides, then yeah, sounds about right.  IME it depends a lot on your climate and you'll have to adjust it some, but that sounds like a good start.
