Newby shroomer here looking for confirmation on my most recent finds. Im like 99% sure theyre the species i think they are, better safe than sorry.
Habitat: found in a mix of horse manure, pine shavings and old hay.
Gills: On one the gills are dark purple, the other two are a light brown
Stem: White, fairly firm, not hollow. Remnants of a veil, slightly purplish in color(i assume from spores dropping?)
Cap: Smooth and white on one(this guy was waterlogged as hell), smooth white base color with golden fades towards the center
Spore print: DArk purple/black
Bruising: blue

Etc: found these guys in an area where other p cubes have been found. These were noticably smaller than the other finds there(the other ones had hollow stems), but everything seems to say psyilocybe cubensis.

They certainly look active. They are strange looking if they are indeed cubensis. Cool find!

Those two pale ones are very interesting. It would be logical to assume that they are Psilocybe cubensis given the habitat. The one with the golden cap is Psilocybe cubensis, so if you found them all together in the same pile then they are all cubes.

The cubes ive been finding very rarely have a good golden fade, which is why for a while I didnt even bother with the ones i found. They had all the other characteristics of cubes though, some minus bruising(tossed them). May have to do with the growth habitat? I know cow poops pretty good for them, but horse manure is kind of iffy.
There were some pretty pinners at the spot today, so ill have more pics of this group soon.

Photos showing them at all stages of maturity would be awesome. I wonder if anyone would be interested in microscopy of one of your pale specimens.

Idk if i got all stages of maturity but heres a few pics of them growing up.
Yesterday morning found a good little patch

Last night, they grew considerably:

The harvest, two of them were dropped and got pretty mangled:

Great looking specimens this time:

I honestly dont know why the recent finds(say last month) have been more 'normal' in their characteristics and why the finds before that looked so funny. Maybe the very dry hot temps during the summer sun bleaching the caps? O/T: is it bad to pick cubes before the cap and gills open up fully?

Some people might say yes because no spores have dropped yet, and it hasn't reached it's full size potential. I think it's fine though, cube pins are still bigger than fully matured cyans, and it's not like it's a rare species you're going to wipe out.

No, it's not bad at all. Over in cultivation we advocate picking them just as the veil begins to tear, as production of the psychoactives ceases when resources get shunted over to sporulation (and spores taste like shit anyway). If you can ID 'em without spores, pick 'em when the veil starts to tear.

Not sure how long is considered to long for a bump but im gonna update this thread with my cube finds for now.
Got these guys today. The weather has been so so for cube growing, and 2 of these were in the pin stage for a week or so. The temps were really cold in the morning(like 40) and during the day the humidity was very low. Im surprised they even survived, but i just watched them for a while. They started to get a little bigger 2 days ago but the climate was just all wrong, then we got some good rain for a few days and the temps stayed between 60 and 80 so they grew up pretty good. Still small but w/e. All from the same patch as previous finds ITT.

I know there was some discussion about the fading color and what caused it in previous picks. I didnt see those ones until i picked them so had no idea as to what could have caused it. I suspected it was sub par conditions, and it seems that fluctuations between high humidity/good temps vs wonky temps/low humidity/extra sunshine throughout a specific week when theyre growing lends itself to the whiter faded cap.
Check out the stem on this guy . When they were real young i brushed away some of the compost and sht away from the shroom so i could get a better look at it, and in the process ''pushed'' it over. I thought i fuking ruined it or ripped it out of the ground so i just left it to die. Pretty resilient bastards, this was the biggest in the bunch.

Drying right now. THey should make for a merry christmas

You can bump a thread of any age as long as you have good content to add. Bumping old threads just to say "cool" or something would be poor form.
Nice to see that there are still mushrooms somewhere in the US - half the country is frozen right now and the west coast season is not really going.
