Hey guys so I bought some black poplar spawn and I threw it in a cup of compacted shredded paper and dampened. I was told that this would work but I'm starting to have doubts if it will. Is there anything else I need and if not, how long before I should see some form of colonisation? Cheers!

If you're going with shredded paper, I would suggest looking into trying out a species of oyster mushrooms.
Black poplar is a bit finicky.

Ah right, I already bought the spawn and they're my favourites taste wise, so is there any better methods you would suggest? Cheers.

If its sawdust spawn just cut open the bag and case with jiffy mix.  Maintain fruiting conditions.

You won't fruit black poplar mushroom on paper. You might be better trying to inoculate millet and then use that to inoculate dowels for a log. Can also be grown on woodchips
