Found these in the woods behind my house, Wondering if they're amanita's and what would be the best way to take them, small one is 2-3 inches and the large one is around 5 inches tall and the cap is 4-5 inches wide

Aint no expert, but I would guess it an amanita..... though it is up to you, and I would have waited for some more advice be you insecure...
Consumption.... eat it? Cracker dry offcource.. and remember to stay off corbonated breverages.. Amanita is sacred... remember that

Thanks for the Input, I'm fairly certain it is one, but I wouldn't know I'm really new at this.

It is Amanita muscaria var. persicina.
The best way to eat them is to fry them in butter at high temperature until consistantly browned, and then add a little salt and pepper when they are done.
But don't be surprised if you throw up.
The most common effect is sleepiness however.

New guy? Amanitas arentt the most notable for recreational value... and there would be limited visual with presumably a sick-feeling... just so it be noted..

As I understand it theres a lot of mixxed feelings on the recreational value of amanita's. But I won't know untill I try them for myself, Just concerned on the way to consume them, my research shows that you can cook/eat them dried/raw or smoke them. Anyone have signifigant experience taking them that could give me a more detailed explanation of the feeling?

It's kind of like drinking a couple beers in my experience.
It is a super delicious mushroom when fried fresh in butter, and tastes pretty yucky when dried and made into tea.

Yup yup, I agree, they are yummy. Just be carefull on amount, as you can ingest so much looking for visions(and with enough you will get them), that you will become so relaxed and detached that you risk not being able to turn over to vomit..thus...vomit aspiration and asphyxiation.

One would often like the muscimol ...

Yup...but youll get more discomfort.....heat turns the bad stuff(ibotenic acid) to good stuff(muscimol). Drying does it to, but, as alan said makes em taste like crap.

That is possible, but I have never heard of that happening.

Hard to say, try it both ways. I do not believe that the prep method matters much or perhaps not at all. People claim that proper preperaton causes less sickness, but in my experiments the chance of illness is the same no matter how it is prepared.

Yes, its safe, but they taste so much better fried. They are one of the worlds most delicious mushrooms, I see no reason not to cook them. They are probably easier on the stomach when cooked, and more nutritious.
I do know one hippie that eats them fresh and gets good effects.
