Which Polypore?
    #19153402 - 11/18/13 09:58 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

I was doing some medicinal tree mushroom hunting a few months ago and dried out everything. There is one that I want to research, but I can't remember what it's called. They were found in Ontario, Canada on fallen logs. I don't know which kind of tree it was on, but I'm pretty sure this a well known polypore and hoping someone can tell me what it's called by looking at it.
Thanks.

Looks like Ganoderma applanatum and Reishi...Ganoderma something - depends on the type of tree.  All medicinal though.

hmmm, shit.    Hey Chug, did the darker red ones bruise on the pore surface.  If not, Raceme is probably correct.

Yes, that's it! I remember now Ganoderma applanatum or Ganoderma something very close... Time to do some reading :-)
The ones on the left are Fomitopsis pinicola - Red Belted Polypore. They taste pretty good in tea (I've mixed it with Chaga once). The ones on the right in that one pic are the ones in question. Sorry about any confusion.
Thanks again.

After a quick Google search, I just scratched the bottom of the mushroom and I believe it is in fact Artist's Conk aka Ganoderma applanatum  :-)
