you are mostly right this time amanitaman.
1.) is a pan. not sure wich.
2.) is also a pan. it is Pan. semiovatus. they are verry common on dung and are neat looking.
they are inactive.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

It is actually Panaeolus antillarum, not Semiovatus( The white capped Shroom).

THe top shroom is Panaeolus campanulatus.

1.) would you care to explain the distincton?
2.) i was under the impression that campantulatus did not expand in age and remained incurved, as i've seen that specificaly noted in more than one description and i believe in a key. also, was papilionaceus dumped into the campantulatus complex?

The top photo doesn't look at all like the campanulatus that I am used to seeing (in cow dung). The stem looks different and that's to say that mine are thicker stemmed. Also mine usually have grey/white stems but those look red/brown? What's the deal? Find those antillarum all the time and they piss me off because I get all hopeful and..... anyway. Sweet pics man. I like seing pan. variations more because I can compare all the shit I find around here.

We've had some serious rain the last few days, so I thought it would be a good time for hunting, but those two pics were all I came across. I imagine(hope) there will be much more in a couple days.

i agree with P. antillarum. P. semiovatus grows primarily on horse dung, usually has a membranous annulus, and has as somewhat viscid cap when moist.

the P. campanulatus complex usually refers to P. campanulatus, P. papilionaceus, P. retirugis (although often has a reticulate pileus), and P. sphinctrinus.
