Which cactus should I grow?
    #19153185 - 11/18/13 08:33 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

I'm thinking about growing some cacti, either San Pedro or Peruvian Torch.

How does the strength/experience compare between the two? Also will either one grow considerably faster/easier and do they need a specific climate?

From what little I've read it seems the San Pedro will be fine climate-wise but I'm not sure about Peruvian Torch.

Cheers :peace:

Bridgesii/pachanoi hybrids from seed. Both san pedro and peruvianus cuttings going around are often bunk, the first being a very weak PC clone, the other is very often misidentified and actually P. cuzcoensis, which contains some alkaloids but no M, and is for all intents and purposes inactive to mildly intoxicating.

They are, but only if you can get a real South American one, or grow one from seeds with good genetics. The PC clone going around is near the low end of the scale.
That's why the best option is to get seeds or seedlings of a hybrid from good named clones.

Hmm alright. :strokebeard:

It must take a while to mature from a seed right?

Any other recomendations for hybrids?

It seems like a waste of time to grow any cacti that isn't bridgesii unless you know its potent.
I have pc san pedros, and had a cuzco that I bought as Peruvian torch. Now, I'm a bridgesii grower

San Pedro is less trouble for northern growers who don't have better weather

In my experience Bridgesii is more prone to rot though mine have survived pretty well

I place mine dormant in the winter... Only real growth is summer
