How does this cake look?
    #19153184 - 11/18/13 08:32 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Long story short, these are a friends cakes from cincinatti. The one thats dark was put into the fruiting chamber a week before the others. Which is a total of about 3 weeks. I dont think its going so well, and i dont think the fruiting chamber is all that great. Can i have some advice? I dont want to be the one to tell him if its bad lol

Tell him to build a proper SGFC with perlite, and then come back to us. A cardboard box is not going to give you very good results, if any

I figured it was mold cause of the fuzziness. But im pretty sure he thinks its supposed to look that way cause he dunked and rolled it.

That black cake is finished.

That box isn't going to allow any kind of FAE (fresh air exchange).  All mushrooms need oxygen to grow.

I'd hit it.

20 bux or less you can build a proper sgfc, with the way you have it set up now and that nasty black cake next to your healthy ones youre asking for :failboat:

Some(if not all) black mold is very hazardous to your health toss that immediatly. I also would re dunk the cakes with some hydrogen peroxide mixed in the water bc im sure there is black mold spores all over the other cakes from being shut in the cardboard box with it..

peroxide does nothing for black mold. it treats cobweb only.
It does however hurt/stun mycelium, so that's a really bad advice I'd say..

That is a nastyy cake. Def needs to be removed. The box is not a great idea either. That electronic hygrometer is most likely also not serving its purpose. 3 weeks is an awfully long time. 2 weeks is starting to push it too with no pins.
