What could cause the hats to crack?
    #19153149 - 11/18/13 08:14 AM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Hello there.

when fruiting what could be causing the hats to crack? It is happening on more than one cake so I think it must be environmental and not genetic. They look a bit like they are being torn open from the top or sides.

Best regards,
Nicotine.

Matters what they look like. Could be cracked caps due to low humidity, or split caps due to rapid growth.

If the caps are splitting from rapid growth, it's not humidity related.  If it were related to low humidity, they would be dry and cracked like a reptile's back.  If they're splitting, it's just from rapid growth and doesn't indicate a problem.

Good luck hopefully you've got some great genetics giving you rapid growth

Thanks for the replies.

Yes hats are caps and in the future I will try to keep my terminology straight.

Well it is really humid in there with the mushies so it must be the growth speed but now I just wonder what caused the growth speed. Not that I see it as a problem.

I will have to take some prints of the siblings with whole caps hoping the growth speed will be inherited.

Best regards,
Nicotine.
