Attempted cloning from pins
    #19152892 - 11/18/13 05:28 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Two days ago, I attempted to clone pins in 10 MEA petri dishes. I followed the proper procedure, but I just read a post by RR stating that a weak nutrient load should be used when cloning from pins to slow down bacteria. I used a standard nutrient load. Are my petris garbage?

not garbage but its a more favorable environment for bacteria. as long as the tissue was clean you should be cool. good luck

The low nutrient load encourages faster growth from the pins.

Grab some mycelium within 48 hours from the leading edges of the new growth and transfer them to new plates before you ever see any contamination.  The whole idea is for the mycelium to outrun any mold,  which has to germinate from spores before it can begin to grow.  The mycelium on the pins is live and already in rapid growth mode, so outrunning any mold is easy.  You just have to be ready to make fast transfers.
