Final 7 days fruiting stage... Help please?

Hi all!
I am a newb and this is my first experience so I thought you might be able to help me through it...
I made this thread to be helped through the casing/pinning process: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/19096651/fpart/1/vc/1 ...and it went well
But now I had to change my setup to allow enough room for a full mushroom to grow.... (I am aiming at simply producing one print)
In my previous thread, I was fanning and misting a lot, more than once daily...
But now the FC parameters have drastically changed from being in the jar only to being in a "chamber".
And my question to you is simple: Given that a full fruit of this species usually has a growth time lapse of about a week... What would you do with my setup...
The jar filled a third of the way up with bulk sub is a half pint jar

As you can see it is sealed right now, with no GE filters, and my casing is still a little moist from misting today. Also, I am using perlite to keep RH high.
Would you let it sit till maturity? Would you mist? FAE? Would you poke holes in the cover? ...protect them with a sort of filter?
How would you treat this environment in the next 7 days?
Thanks a lot for your support!!

Build a proper SGFC and place the cakes in there....then mist and fan the cakes at least twice a day.
http://www.mushroomvideos.com/Terrarium-Tek
Please read the entire page I linked and watch the videos before posting back.
Perlite in the bottom of a tub with no holes is pointless.
You want lots of fresh air with no filtering....this is not a sterile process.
GE is for colonization only...after that you want tons of fresh air.
Once in the properly built SGFC, mist the cake directly with a fine mist until it glistens, then fan out the chamber.
Mist again once the water you previously applied has evaporated.
What I would not do is keep going like you are....you need a descent FC.

Thanks for your help, I just read the whole thing...
So will keep up with misting and lots of fae... But the air is dry here... Is the perlite really that useless even if I fan it very often? If still... Then I should make a few holes in my FC but not too much because of the dry air...
Nice tip about a humidifier helping with the energy bill though... Cool
Thanks again

HAH, he has a descent FC, descent into the realm of failure. What you really need is a good fruiting chamber that will keep the humidity as close to 99%, but also allow your mushies to breath with lots of fresh air..
I can fan it 5 times a day... I'm off work... Would you drill holes shotgun style or could fanning compensate?

Can air flow up thru the perlite and humidify the chamber between fannings?
Because that is what you need....constant fresh air with moisture BETWEEN mistings and fannings...when you are not there.
We do not mist for humidity, we mist to replace lost moisture in the cakes.
We do not fan for fresh air, we fan to make room in the air for the water we just misted to evaporate, which also helps bring the humidity back up.
Build a proper SGFC bro....

Is that what the tek you just read said?
A properly built SGFC with 1/4" holes every 2" in a grid pattern on all 6 sides(as per the tek), will work descently in a desert....you would just have mist and fan more often.
Follow the tek...not just a few holes......1/4" holes every 2" in a grid pattern on all 6 sides.

Moorning Due said: Perlite is your friend. It's that you need it to NOT to trap the bad air in your chamber below it, so you need holes even where the perlite is to prevent this.
Nothing in a FC sinks....co2, heat, and humidity all rise.....so what bad air are you referring to?
In a properly built SGFC heat and humidity rise out of the holes in the top, and fresh air is then pulled up thru the perlite to rehumidify it.
Even in a sealed box, if there is a heat source(a cake) nothing in the air is going to sink.....it would be like a convection.

In super dry climates you also have to hose down the perlite every second or third day. I've wedged something under one half of the tub and then just hosed it down in the shower with success.

I think I just realized I completly skipped a perlite step.... I'm confused by an old 1990's video.
I get it now, I'll build it tomorrow... for tonight... dam..., I'll try to figure something out.
Thanks a lot guys, I had outdated info I think... Don't know how long SGFC's been arround.... Hmmm
Thanks again
Hey does it tend to drip under the sgfc if you strained the perlite well?

Sometimes a little bit, if you mist really heavily...a towel underneath it would not hurt anything.

Built it... Dam happy I did... This sgfc might be the last thing I ever use... For the first time, I see the power of perlite.... Also got a heavy duty misting bottle... Awesome... Makes the world's difference.

Lol... Why not discuss it a little? Sgfc vs monotub, what's your take on it.... I mean... What rational do you have behind this preference?

SGFCs work great for cakes.
Monotubs work great for bulk.
There is really no comparison, because they work differently.
Once you see how bulk works, and how much more yield you get doing bulk in monotubs vs cakes in a SGFC, you will start drooling....
Then you will quickly switch to bulk.....lol.

There's absolutely nothing at all wrong with a SGFC, and there are some things (like fruiting sclerotia-producing species) that I'd much rather do in a SGFC than in a monotub. For cakes and trays it's irreplaceable, and without reservation I can tell you it's good that you have one now.
But you're going to catch the bug just like the rest of us have, and you're going to want to do a large bulk grow before long.
