Question about jar lids, physics, and the atmosphere..???
    #19152178 - 11/17/13 10:13 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Ok so many of us have used these ball jars for our hobby over the years

I was sitting in a room with the jars and one of the tabs on the top popped and made that snapple popping noise.  I haven't touched any of these jars in weeks.  I thought it was weird that randomly it just made that noise.  Then a few hours later, another lid made the pop noise.

I was wondering, are the jar lids compressed when you screw them down and it literally took many weeks and both of these jars tops popped back up at the same time by coincidence?  Or could there have been atmospheric pressure change and these 2 jars tops popped on the same day because of it?

This is kind of :kingtard: but I am curious how jars that sit in the same position for over 2 months both deciude to have their top cap make the pop noise hours apart.

my guess would be the atmospheric pressure theory. or ghosts

Barometric pressure for sure. When I buy my jars, the store I get them from is at sea level. I live at about 1500 feet up the mountain from there. As I drive up the hill I hear the lids popping.
