Extreme brf cake shrinkage while colonizing?

so my brf jars are colonizing great and fairly quickly well one of them is shrinking quite a bit it also happens to be the fastest colonizer
is 3/4 an inch normal shrinkage of a brf cake? i read that shrinkage was normal but 3/4 of an inch is quite a lot more than my other jars
also if this is okay do you think it still needs a week consolidation time considering it is consuming the brf faster then all my other jars?

The Myc is making use of the nutritious growth medium. They will shrink. Look on the bright side, they'll be easier to get out of the jar!

so does a cake that has shrunk that much still need a consolidation period or no?

just looked at it again
you know how when cakes don't get enough FAE and they get fluffy?
well this has some of that so i think i will birth at 100%
also opinions on poor mans syringe tek?
http://www.shroomery.org/67/Poor-Mans-Mycelium-Syringe-Tek
doesn't seem like much of a risk considering i will be dunking it anyway and i also used self healing injection port lids with a tyvek filter PLUS the dry verm barrier so contam risk seems very low.

Cakes are super nutritious so I would consolidate regardless. The week consolidation is more of a minimum standard, longer is recommended. If you have what looks like aerial mycelium invitro that either points to it being a) not shroom mycelium at all or b) the mycelium is still in max colonization mode, still searching for food and needs a good consolidation to prepare for fruiting.

This tek is loaded with fail but, and this is a big but, if you used SHIP and a tyvek filter instead of the standard 4 holes and dry verm layer only, you may be successful. But be warned LC is sketchy at the best of times and can contam at any point. You would be far better served to start learning agar if you want to use cultures to be self sufficient.

Looks normal. Just let it do its thing, consolidation leads to better results in the end.

That one probably wasn't packed as much or had an air bubble, etc. It's normal for the cakes to shrink because mycelium is consuming the substrate and releasing it as CO2. RR
