Purple hue and spots on mycelium Possible contam?
    #19150977 - 11/17/13 05:52 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

I'm worried about my jars.  They looked pretty normal and white at about a week after innoc at around 80 degrees, and then i noticed some purple tinged coloration.  It looked like maybe there was a purply quartz pebble in some of the jars. Now it looks more widespread and its pretty obvious, any idea what this is?

Ordered the jars from midwest growers, and the grow kit i think made by them was also a gift.  Not sure what I have here if I should keep them going or just toss everything.
I also wrote the first letters of each strain (burma and golden teacher) on the outside of the jars, don't confuse that purple marker with the purple inside.

If it is for sure contamination:
I disinfected the oven and the incubation chamber, I turned it on high and did the inoculation in about 250 degree heat in there then resealed the jars when done and put in clean chamber.  I burned the spore needle between jars and started it off with alcohol swabs.  Bought the spores form sporestore. Any other tip to avoid contam, do I really need to make one of those clean glove boxes?  How can I avoid this in the future?  There's nowhere in my house that I could make a more clean room except maybe a bathtub but no heat there.

Toss any that have purple in them. It sounds like you used a contaminated spore syringe so it'll probably appear in all the jar from the bad syringe.
