I thought I was cool. Now I'm pretty sure I was lame.
Most folks I know from hs are losers now, dead or in jail.

Now now, Koods. I'm sure you haven't been in school for quite some time. Have you not learned anything in all of those years?

Pay attention. I just told you a cool story about how I learned that I am cool... Too cool for school, in fact.

Why do people drop out of high school? Seriously cool question here.
Highschool is like the easiest thing in the entire world, and that's coming from me; who didn't know basic math until after I went to college which I learnt there practically just from watching youtube videos. Granted I cheated in math class a few times and usually took the easier math classes (in high school) but still passed my finals and whatnot. Seriously highschool is pretty much you just show up and study minimally if at all, and hang out with people all day.
I don't mean to preach but I can guarantee most people who dropped out regret it now, am I right?

I was a total loser in middle school/early high school. Lost 50 lbs, joined cross country, wasn't "preppy" or whatever but I had more friends than I could realistically keep up with and found it obnoxious more than anything. So my last couple years of high school I was cordial/en par-ish with the "coolest" kids but preferred my small tribe of XC friends/my 2 best friends to anything conventionally "cool".
In and right before college, I was one of those people that was gregarious and socially fearless... was usually the one who found parties for my dorm crew to go to. Even when I started getting way too into drugs (i.e. dealt with addiction and overdose for the first time), I had nurses and whatnot tell me I'm "hard not to like". I hope that's still the case but I suspect I have some work to do.
I fucked that up partially and let it atrophy the last year and a half so we'll see how it goes when I go back. Some of my best old friends still stay in touch and I figure the fact that I'll be 23 and living in the dorms (alcohol buying age=21 ), I'll find myself popular whether I like it or not.
One thing that's always--ALWAYS--rang true though is that a lot of people just love me (perhaps most, until natural social interaction distills it down to who I really "get along with") but that a sizable minority simply hate me hate me hate me.
It's fun that way

My brother in law was a high school dropout. I think he was too busy doing drugs and shit like that to care. He ended up getting into computer programming kinda early and it worked out for him. I think eventually his job made him get a GED, like maybe 5 or 6 years ago? I dunno, he had been working there for a while without even a GED.
But yes, I realize he's more of an exception.

summer of my sophmore year i got 2 DUI's...i came back that fall and was deemed cool...
i didn't even know people knew...today I'd say it was dumb and haven't had any trouble like that since
high school just had too many cliques for me to handle so i kinda made a few friends within each so i kinda belonged to all of them...it helped out alot with my entrepreneuring i experimented with....cough cough...sniff sniff..

Absolutely not. I was very reserved and had a small core group of friends. Still am.

yes and no.
yes because I didn't give a shit about what everyone did and did my own thing, usually small core group of friends but I mingled with everyone. Towards junior/senior year got a lot more attention from/hooked up with some hot scenester/drama chicks - which was sweet. Same deal for college.
no because I generally was a mellow, introspective dude (still am) and didn't have the drive to try to impress people that it seemed the popular kids had. That and I thought football was a stupid sport (still do).
fuck being cool tho just be yourself

I always got along pretty well with just about everyone in highschool, but I wouldn't say I was in the "cool" group. Unless you consider the stoner and burnout crew as cool.
