ID Request
    #19149165 - 11/17/13 10:53 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Hi. I have been shroom hunting with my children today and found the following 3 types of fungi. They were found in woodland, next to trees in UK at our local country park.

Can anyone help me to identify them please? I have looked partially in my nature book but cannot find any similar. I am not computer savvy, so do not know if they are poisonous or not.

1. Coprinoid of some sort.
2. Blurry something or other
3. Maybe Entoloma.

1) Probably Coprinellus micaceus group, but Psathyrella is also possible.
2) Too blurry to see what it is
3) Melanoleuca

Out of the three, the Melanoleuca is the most edible, assuming I am correct about the genus...Appears as though there are some other posters with different ideas about what it could be though.  : )

However I still think Melanoleuca is the best guess as its a rather old mushroom and appears to have white gills, indicating that it is white spored.

Thank you Thank you Thank you to the above posters.
My main concern that the 3rd one was poisonous as we cut it and have taken it home. My son wants to take it to school or eat but so far I have been careful to touch it in case it was deadly. We wont eat it.

It is ok to touch deadly mushrooms.  Just don't swallow any and you will be fine.

You can taste a little bit and spit it out, though deadly mushrooms usually have little flavor.

It would help to see some pics of the underside, and also compare it with online pics of Melanoleuca.

Still looks like a Melanoleuca, but Xerula is also possible.

Oh really!?!?!?!?!

So the question becomes "do the spores have amyloid ornamentation???"

OP, if you could put a drop of iodine and get a pic of the spores at 400x or 1000x, that would be awesome!

I'm thinking Xerula because of the habitat.
Almost all the Melanoleuca I see here are found in grassy habitats.
