Kratom questions
    #19149045 - 11/17/13 10:23 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Could someone explain Kratom to me? What can the high be compared to? I've taken opiates for chronic pain ever since a car accident in 2004. I'm interested in Kratom's ability to treat pain, and prevent opiate withdrawals. I've been thinking about tapering off my medications with Kratom. I've heard it can be stimulating in small doses, and sedative in large ones. Any info, comments, or warnings about this plant are appreciated.

i dont have any experience with kratom, but to bump this thread,  id think its worth a try to use it if you want to taper down

i would imagine, pure speculation here, that it wouldnt work as well to treat pain as opiates

Dear Kratom,

I've been numb for so long that I forgot how to feel
So I don't care if it will break my heart,

I only tried Kratom extract pills from a smart shop with some Theobromine (cocoa ingredient). The Theobromine was there to give it a mild euphoric touch I guess.

Felt like packed in cotton a bit within an opiate bubble where negative feelings don't touch you so much, so you get enabled to more social interaction because you give a shit.
I heard Kratom also docks at Cocaine receptors, so it also has a stimulant side to it and is used as a coffee replacement by Thai taxi drivers.

In a worst case I can also imagine it to be quite pleasant for working through acute depression symptoms.

Kratom can most certainly save you from opiate withdrawals.

Recently at a festival, I had a friend withdrawing who had been IVing heroin daily.
Luckily I had another friend whose job is to make tinctures from pure Kratom alkaloids.
Aaaand both friends rode in the car with me; so my junkie friend was saved from his withdrawals.

We all thought he was still going to have mild withdrawals considering the intensity of a regular IV habit; but he said he wasn't experiencing any withdrawals in particular.

He needed about 25mg's every six hours. He would start sneezing and having a runny nose when he needed to take more.

Sounds like amazing stuff. They sell it at a smoke shop by me in capsules, I'm thinking of purchasing some to try it out. If I enjoy it I can always get bigger quantities online. It doesn't show up on a UA either right?

As far as I know, the metabolites are not tested for.
But a quick google search can help you with that

Typically, the product in headshops are of low-quality.
It's worth a shot, but if you don't feel anything it's probably because of bad product; kratom is not another over-hyped legal high that doesn't work.

I concur...

I heard there is some company that has made, or is working on, a urine test to detect kratom metabolites, but it's a very specific test, not something that's going to show up on any ordinary piss test. And either way, kratom is legal.

And the stuff found in smoke shops & what not are usually way way over priced and mediocre quality at best. So don't be surprised if it doesn't do a whole lot for the price you pay if you get some from a smoke shop. But it might.

If you have a history of heavy opiate use, or are generally not that sensitive to opiates, you may not experience all that much from kratom as far as the opioid effects go. Kratom seems to be hit and miss for some people, or some people have to take large doses to feel the opioid like effects (I am NOT one of those people). But generally it has something to offer to most people, it's a terrific leaf loaded with all sorts of good stuff.
