You were talking about density, NAH. When someone says "smaller," they're talking about either the mass or the volume of a thing. Density is the relationship between mass and volume, so anything that affects density absolutely has to change either the mass or the volume. This can happen either by reducing the volume a mushroom grows to so you get a heavier mushroom for the same unit of space, or it can happen by increasing the mass faster as the volume expands at the same rate so you get a heavier mushroom for the same unit of space.
Again, either one can be described as a small mushroom relative to others with the same mass. That's what dense means.

Not really.....
See the mushroom in my signature?
It was really dense(not hollow)....prolly fruited at around 60-65F.....
If it was hollow but still the same size, it would be less dense, but take up the same amount of volume....
I said mass above because I get mass and volume mixed up a lot...had to look up the difference just now....never could remember that shit...
But it is possible to get a fruit of the same volume, that is less dense....this could be a result of higher fruiting temperatures....this is fact.
Lower temps have tendencies of producing denser, meatier fruits.
Higher temps tend to produce hollow, less dense fruits.
But the volume of the actual fruit is mostly dependant upon moisture content of the substrate, and genetics....

Your SGFC looks great.
You might improve the perlite's wicking efficiency by having it's surface totally exposed. I accomplished this by getting my cakes or trays up off of it .. like so ..

good luck to you.

Since water content of the substrate has a direct causal relationship with the mass of the mushroom and not with the volume, I'm not inclined to agree with you here.

Let's say you have an isolate growing in identical conditions except the only difference is fruiting temperature.
We agree that the lower temperature will likely produce solid stems and denser fruits.
Because of this, wouldn't the denser fruits be smaller in size? Take up less space? If so, by definition they would have less volume.
The smaller volume could still have the same mass as the bigger one. In other words, the small one can still weigh the same as the bigger one.
If true, then would it be more accurate to say "But the mass of the actual fruit is mostly dependant upon moisture content of the substrate, and genetics...."
