The Catholic church also has a position against extramarital sex, which presumably prevents many HIV cases in people who actually follow it. People who follow the condom thing but not the extramarital sex thing obviously are at greater risk of HIV infection, but those people are not actually doing what the church's teachings say to do.

Most Catholics pick and choose what they adhere to. Guys don't like condoms, so the pope backing them up is gravy. They can just go confess later about the sex outside of marriage thing - that's how it works with Catholics - you can be a total douche, and as long as you tell your priest, it's ok.

Still though, it would seem that it's not as clear as you made out that Catholic policies definitely cause a net increase in HIV/STI cases/deaths.

It's scary to think that over the past 500 years, tens of countless thousands of witches and even non-witches, and anyone suspected of being a witch... all had absolutely no way to defend themselves from the sickeningly barbaric fate that loving righteous Christians assigned to them - being burned at the stake.  And there were people who just stood by and watched it happen, every time. Satisfied with maintaining the status quo through inaction.

And this situation in the UK feels a lot like that ugly history rearing its head again. That poor girl hadn't the slightest idea what to do about it.

who cares?

The natives in the host country, who have bent over backwards to help them assimilate, yet all they get is more criminal activity, low educational results, very high unemployment, and a very high tax burden from their unwillingness to cooperate.

Having large families with 10 children, little employment, and high levels of criminality is a burden to everyone, that is why they care.

youre gonna need to post some sort of skewed statistics to support that.

otherwise it sounds pretty racist.

I swear religion has been the absolute worst thing that has happened to this planet. So many deaths just for a persons opinion. If I was in that girls shoes I undoubtedly would have lost my goddamn mind.

Ok, let's try to get some conceptual clarity in here.

You've got religion. This is a set of stories and rules that people once conjured up and may take at face value. Religion in itself is nothing; just a bunch of concepts, texts and rites. In the end, religion always boils down to dogma.

Then you've got Muslims. These are all the people who adhere to some part or form of the Islamic religion. Some Muslims are extremely dogmatic, but so are some Christians or even Hindus. Most people, religious or not, tend not to be overly dogmatic.

And thirdly, you've got violent retards.

Now, the third group is really the problem. They may be Muslims, Christians, football supporters or just lone madmen/women. They are antisocial, lack respect for the world around them and tend to believe that the solution to conflict is through violence.

So if the violent retards are the problem, the question remains if Muslims are more likely to be violent retards. It seems to me that religion in itself is not the problem here. Every religion is dogmatic and it really depends on a group of people if they choose to act according to any dogma. And perhaps that's the problem with the Muslims in Western countries: these people are fairly to extremely dogmatic along the lines of their religion, and Westerners are fairly to extremely dogmatic along the lines of freedom of expression and whatnot. It's two belief systems clashing, with the violent retards making things messy.

Dogema. So inflexible. Wow.

I just don't understand why some people make it an issue when another person is not of the same faith as they are. Just be happy with your choice and don't worry about what other people choose.

They have a right to free speech, i agree with that, but when it comes to confrontation and using violence to force their religion upon others, that's when it becomes a problem.

Well, if you look closely at the demonstrations by Muslims and particularly Muslim extremists, you see it's not so much that they're trying to push their faith on others; it's more that they seem to be very afraid of their faith being taken away from them. It's an irrational fear as far as I'm concerned, but if you're less optimistic, you could say it's about their faith being intertwined with all aspects of life that are just different in the West. But hasn't that been the same for Jews, for ages?

Instead of just saying it is relevant why not describe it's relevance?  Because you cant, because its not.

Also, Islam is not judeo-christian.  That is just yet another lame attempt to deflect criticism by changing the meaning of the phrase.  Rather than getting hung up on labels, you should judge people on what they actually say and do.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/worldviews/wp/2013/05/01/64-percent-of-muslims-in-egypt-and-pakistan-support-the-death-penalty-for-leaving-islam/

Yes I can, although apparently I should have said its an Abrahamic religion. It is relevant because it is related, and because the people who believe in these religions believe in many of the same themes and concepts, and there are extremists in all of them. Also, deflect criticism, what criticism, are you trying to say I'm a muslim? Anyway you know nothing of Islam if you believe its not related to Judaism or Christianity. Islam is a religion that believes in the same god as the Jews and the Christians, but that Jesus wasn't the Messiah but a prophet, along with a few other bits that differ from the others. Yes, obviously you judge people on what they say and do, no argument there.

As for this http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/worldviews/wp/2013/05/01/64-percent-of-muslims-in-egypt-and-pakistan-support-the-death-penalty-for-leaving-islam/, do you really think that horrible things haven't been done in the name of Christianity? Maybe you should look up the Spanish inquisition.

There's a difference between discussing religion and preaching, Pris. I think that's what dontknow was referring to - the human habit of discussing things without necessarily trying to manipulate others.

I went to school with a bunch of Muslim people. Some would talk about their religion a bit (e.g. the fasting during Ramadan) but nobody seemed to be trying to convert anyone. Many were proud of their culture, but I never knew anyone who seemed adversarial about it. You do hear about Muslims and Jews protesting each others' guest speakers and events at certain universities though. I would guess that some countries are more attractive than others to the hardline types, for whatever reason. Perhaps part of it is also that the atmosphere in certain countries is more hostile to Muslims (or immigrants generally) and makes extremism more attractive to some people who were previously pretty moderate.

Over here the Muslims that live in Belgium say we should leave if we can't get accustomed to their habits.
