so does the girl i'm with. We are currently being treated for it (started antibiotics today) and now we can't have ANY sexual contact whatsoever for 2 weeks. The perilous sobriety forced us to have sex today anyways.
How bad is this? Anyone with personal experience?

You may have reinfected each other. The reason the doctor gave you those instructions is that its contagious until cured, not half cured or anything. You will probably end up having to take another course of antibiotics, or at least extended of the current course of medicine. Tell your doctor and hers so you get the proper treatment.

I'm by no means an expert, but it seems odd to me that 14 days would guarantee you'd be clean, where as 13 days would leave you still infected. Is 14 days really a magical number or is it just a nice 'round' number that also (usually) ensures the infection is gone?

I'm not saying the infection will be gone in 14 days. That is just the length of time that we will be taking the antibiotics.

Thank you for answering my question nicely. Much appreciated.

I know what you're not saying that, I'm questioning whether having sex on the first day, really negates the effectiveness of the next 13 days of the treatment. Would seem to me that it's probably a "better safe than sorry" type thing and 13 days for all practical purposes, is just as effective as 14 days.
Of course it's entirely possible 14 days isn't just an arbitrary number and that it does make a difference.

My ex and I had it, they never told us to stop having sex when we got treated for it.

This is odd. The doctor never mentioned it to me specifically either, but it was all over the interwebs.

The concern with having sex with another person also infected while on antibiotics, is likely antibiotic resistance.
More chlamydia dna introduced to your system while being treated for it would mean higher chances of it developing into an antibiotic resistant strain.

two types of drug for treating both antibiotics
one is dosing for two weeks the other is one dose over 24 hours
dont get it on again and stick to the medicine and you will both be fine

I got chlamydia as a freshman in college. Not sure which girl it was though. Just know about 3 months later my balls were sore constantly til I was treated. But I'd say going as far as you can into the 14 day time limit is better than not.
