found these in wood chips in a rose garden.

they look like stunzii's but darker and stalkey. they have a light veil and bruise blue. the outer cap also have a blueish color.

can you help me id these?

they certainly look similar. only the stems are much shorter.

do you think that matters? or just due to the environment they were growing?

On wood chips they are usually short and chunky.  In natural areas they are slimmer and taller.

They are both woodlovers, and it is not uncommon for them to grow near cyans in the PNW.

we went back to the same spot this morning and found cyans in with the ovoids! so yes!

super cool!
