Do you like your job? 1

I've worked a LOT of shitty jobs. Managing a wholesale pet warehouse was probably the worst. Worked 65-70 hours a week for $25k a year and when I got home I smelled like various kinds of animal shit and piss and was always sick. That sucked. I also did valet parking. The only cool aspect of that was getting to drive all kinds of cars over $100K. The job was tip based though, so it was very rare you'd have a good night.
Now I'm working in a microbiology lab and I fucking love what I do. I actually get to use the stuff I went to school for. I find myself staying late, going in on Saturdays for an hour or two, or researching solutions to problems with experiments when I get home. I don't do it because I have to, I do it because I enjoy it.
How many of yous people actually have jobs that you would say you love? Why do you love it? On the other side, do you hate your job? Why? What do you do, what sucks about it?

I like my job, aspects of it anyway, not too keen on the pay rate though, I get to spend time working on machines, making them safer, more efficient and improving quality but I also have some office time to deal with
tuesday morning I have to give a presentation to the bigwigs that are coming in from the head office, I'm co-leading an event at work, the other guy is handling the first and 3rd presentation but I have to take the second. hurray for public speaking... especially when it's the people that pay you
the upside... in a company where few people ever say "you're doing a fantastic job", I get told that a lot, several department heads, the guy running this particular facility as well as a number of others in the office know me by name and by sight. it's odd since this is just the start of the 3rd month in this position and it's a huge, multinational company

That's fucking awesome man. I'm so happy for you that you found a bio job that you enjoy.
It's the reason I pursued my biology degree. I legitimately love scientific pursuits and it's what I find myself doing in my spare time anyway. Mycology is a big part of it.
Hopefully I'll find something soon. The prospect of getting paid for something challenging that I enjoy doing anyway is thrilling to me.
I can't imagine going to work for the rest of my life doing something that I don't enjoy. That would suck.

I would love to work in a lab, but, unfortunately, that isn't in the cards for me right now. I'm excited for the new opportunity that I start on Monday, but would really rather be working in the field I spent four hard years of my life working to study.

Sometimes. I'm not content about it at the moment though. I like some of what I'm building up to, I like the sites I'm working on but I wouldn't really it call it a job.
The other job I have I like cause it helps pay for some stuff and I can do it at home so I dig that.
As for future jobs it's up in the air kind of. I'll see how the websites pan out and go from there.

Love my Jobs.
In the summer I do plant health care. I basically just go around and identify problems with trees, shrubs or lawns and fix them. It mostly consists of fertilization and pesticide applications. I work by myself, and choose my own schedule. I legally can't spray If the wind is over 15mph, it's raining/drizzling/snowing, or if people are in my way or I feel the situation is too risky. I smoke every morning, and around lunch, and depending on my mood have a beer or two for lunch. I answer to no one except my customers, whom I do everything I can to make happy. I had to cap my customers this year, and can't take on anyone new. I fired two customers who always complained and were just miserable to deal with and took on two more who are ecstatic to be working with me. Just finishing up the last of my deep root feeding and Lime treatments next week and then I'm off until April.
Which brings me to my other job. I picked up blowing glass in June of last year. Last winter it eased the January-February period that is generally a little tough money wise and it went smooth sailing. This year I have dozens of people asking me for Christmas presents already, the two shops who carry my stuff are calling me every few days asking for more product and I can work all day and still have orders to fill. Luckily they are amazingly cool to work with and an absolute pleasure. During the winter I sleep much later, get way more stoned and generally just enjoy the hell out of the work. Even though I absolutely love nature, there's just something about making art and having people enjoy it that seems far more rewarding to me at this time. Now if only I made the money blowing glass that I did at my other job I would be in heaven.

Love playing gigs but it doesn't pay the bills at the moment, most I've pulled in on a monthly basis was just enough to get by.
Day jobs suck, but the temp gig I got right now ain't so bad. Just manual labor.

I recently started a new job and I'm liking it so far. It's super easy and I have a lot of free time and freedom to do my homework there. My boss also bought me flowers and my favorite beer for my birthday after I'd only been working there for three days, super cool bosses are the best. Most of the people there are really nice to me, too. And they're giving me $1500 a year to pay towards my tuition, how cool is that?

i've been doing environmental toxicology work, predicting the EC50 concentration of toxic metal to indicator species in water body chemistry samples, considering competitive bioavailability, with a computer model. i also use other models to predict wastewater outfall pipe dilution ratios in receiving water bodies, use ArcGIS to map things out, assess contractor sampling plans, etc. lots of SITTING IN A CHAIR DOING CRAP ON THE COMPUTER. ugh... so boring.
i'm LOOKING to do stuff more like what pris said. walk around a facility and audit for hazards, take air/water samples, deliver reports and training, etc. haven't found that job yet... they want too much experience that i dun have!

I had almost no experience but I'm pretty fucking good in an interview and I showed some initiative not shown by other applicants, to land the job I had to work as a temp, and unlike most of them who were applying from home or the terminals in the break rooms, I actually applied from one of the CNC machines. apparently only the IT department is aware that it has that capability

I ain't got a job. Last job I had was in a warehouse and that sucked, but I only did it for a couple weeks.
Before that I worked in the record room for the college of dentistry and that was okay. Mostly because I did a later shift than everyone, so half the day I was in there by myself and I could just leave and go across the street and drink and flirt with whatever waitress was working at the restaurant because it was always empty at that time.

I'm lucky that most people around me have a very positive attitude, as for the presentation, I'm sure I'll do just fine because it's a small group of about a hundred or so from several of the factories across the globe. the ones I'm supposed to impress are the ones from the head office though, apparently they're a tough crowd and they're looking for innovation

My job is badass, so are the majority of people I work with/for.
The only shitty part is when I work with a director who doesnt give me any creativity power. Some niggas see a scene their way and dont want to change it. I get that, but shit nigga, I have some valuable input too. Thats why you hired me as the cinematographer, right? Nope, Im just there to make sure shits in focus and nothing is under/over exposed

It's alright. I work at a garden center stocking, taking care of, and selling landscape plants and gardening supplies. I've worked at a couple different garden centers before. There are things I like more about this one, like WAY less micromanagement compared to other places I've worked. The biggest thing I don't like is that we keep pretty bare bones staffing levels, which makes me feel less able to spend the time and attention with my customers that I'm used to being able to spend. Oh also on the plus side, good benefits including profit sharing.
It's all about maintaining a certain degree of detachment and lack of responsibility. I don't dare demonstrate my full potential, otherwise I could easily end up in a very stressful position. I'm not so concerned with getting ahead though. I'm happy just getting by and not having a lot of stress in my life. Peace of mind is infinitely more valuable to me than paper.

well I have a love/hate relationship with my job....I love that I get paid production and have the opportunity to make over 30an hr which is pretty good around these parts....I also hate my job and would have quit 1000's of times if I didn't make good money....I've had stitches in my leg because of this place....numerous pieces of metal taken out of my eyeball...nasty dust floating around all day...use vibratory tools for 8hrs a day really does a number on your body and they have been sued for carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel dozens of times....I wake up in middle of night with numb hands and arms....been doing this line of work for 7yrs now and hope to find something a little less hazardous to my health sometime soon....oh yeah I chip and grind engine blocks and heads....some of the engines weigh over 10 tons and the heads weigh over 470lbs.....

I like the cut of your jib. For some reason the choices that you make in life never come across as laziness, but rather deliberate. Like you've figured something out that the rest of us are eagerly killing ourselves to learn.

I like my job for the most part. Various small things are good and bad. Like, my boss barely knows shit about welding so explaining why he's fucking wrong about something without hurting his ego is a curious endeavor.
But, we have lots of companies bbqs like 2 a week, I get paid very well, lots of freedom/autonomy. But, I am a bit pissed the other guys I work with get like 90% of my pay and don't really know jack shit about welding/have little experience fabricating and I busted my ass for certs, an AA, experience, etc and barely get much to show for it...except all the more difficult/bitch jobs no one else can do.
I think the solution is more education, like getting a BS. But I don't want loans so I'll be saving for a while... fuck.

I work as a barista at a small-time coffee shop. I hated it at first because it is a ton of work and you live off tips while being completely in control of the store.
Now the entire thing is becoming second nature to me and I do enjoy it. And also, make more money there than any of my previous jobs.

I guess I don't mind my job. Lately it hasn't been very physical because they figured out that I'm somewhat smart and have moved me over to the mixing station to mix different chemicals together rather than doing the sanding/grinding/bondo/painting. I don't find it that hard, but they've already fired a couple people from there for screwing it up. It really is pretty simple stuff though, you just need to know the ratio of one chemical to another and do the math.
I did kind of like doing the more physical stuff, but I still do sometimes. My boss seems to like me and gives me projects to do sometimes, like making up templates for things, or finding scrap wood and building shelving and whatnot to help get the place organized, as it's a startup company.
I like the people I work with though and that's a big deal for me. My work doesn't challenge me as much as I'd like, but it makes life a lot easier if you actually look forward to seeing the people you work with. The pay isn't the best either, $5 less than what I was making at my last job, but I get benefits in a couple months and I'll be using the fuck out of them.

I love my job.
I get to help people who want our business and i do a damn good job at it. Bottom line is i like to help people and that's what keeps me going. Sometime's people will call in in a really bad mood or something and i LISTEN, say some positive words to them and by the end of it they'll say "hey thank you, really, you've been great." There's not much else that can top that IMO.

I like my job too. I work at a machine shop with my dad. I work second shift by myself though and sometimes it gets a bit lonely but I'm doing the work of two people so I'm literally working with no breaks from the time I come in to the time I leave. I like it that way though because time just flies when your busy and before I know it I'm going home. And the $25 an hour is pretty awesome too for not having any sort of degree.

I love my job. It's hard work and sometimes the hours are long but it's rewarding and challenging. I have a very big impact on the company and it also pays me well for my efforts. I've never had a better job.

I do HVAC/R. I love it. I get to work all by myself and only mingle with one or two people at a time. I'm content with doing this for the next 20 years. I provide a service and meet some cool people along the way and build relationships within my community.
