Getting involved in ticket scalping
    #19145737 - 11/16/13 03:11 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Figured I got the drop on when tickets went on sale and figured extending some credit on my credit card (at no cost, but it will take longer to pay off now) and got the highest priced tickets, and I think these are first minute tickets, I called in like the first little bit.

I ordered the paper tickets for the extra shaft in your ass price of 5 bucks each after already charging me 2 seperate fees already adding 20 bucks already to the pice.

Now just to hold onto them in a safe place, advertise the goods, hopefull a lot of fans who don't aren't scalping buy em up so someone realy ponies up the dough :awesome:  :awetongue:  :costanza:  :brilliant:  :uhno:  :winning:  :loldongs:

Meh, if it wasn't him it would just be someone else. I don't like the whole scalping thing, but I've had friends bail on shows that I got tickets to, so I put em up on stubhub for a ridiculous price (thinking no one would pay that and maybe my friend will change their mind), then someone buys the ticket(s) and I essentially go to the show for free

Concert tickets, yes. Scalpers keep real fans out of shows. Tickets are expensive enough as it is, then add in scalping. Not everyone can afford to spend $300 for a ticket.

We got a 5000$ penalty in Ontario for scalpers if they get caught selling above the ticket price. 50000$ if a corporation is doing it

Yeah I wouldn't do it either (buying or selling,) but I don't see it as being immoral. The seller rightfully owns the ticket and the buyer is free to refuse their asking price. If the original seller doesn't want the tickets to be resold, they should associate each ticket with the concertgoer's name and get them to show ID when using it. Otherwise it's natural that they would be traded as commodities.

This, and Koraks statement.

Hey, I imagine I will make at least a little bit of money, especially with really decent seats, and I want to go myself but it's sort of not in the cards either way because it isn't like I have much money these days.

What about the fact that a lot of people can't even find when tickets go on sale first, maybe something keeps them from it but they want tickets at whatever price.

By the way, two seperate charge AND a five dollar fee PER TICKET just to get it on paper? Isn't the only outfit with tickets, it;s like they advertise a price so high already and then tack on fees, that's what the ticket really costs in "convenience fees" it's like I wouldn't even do it if corporations weren't already in the game and driving only a certain subset of scalpers.

This of course gouges me up front because I can only really afford to grab the best tickets I can get if I can only grab two. I can ride the market until it gets to be risky to hold on and then maybe let em go for less than what others charge for tickets that aren't even as good.

It isn't my fault that it's a commodity, and it's not like I am pushing serious money at this, I would be in Broncos tickets if I was manufacturing and had a bunch of excess drug money lying around, not concert tickets unless maybe I could shaft Nicki Minaj fans for the suprising popularity she has and buy em by the shitload without much regard to doing anything but jacking up the price even just a little bit.

Except in many cases it's impossible to get them during the onsale period because ticketmaster/livenation sucks, and scalping bots wind up scoring most of them.

i'm generally in the habit of buying an extra to just about every show i go to, & giving it away on the street in front of the venue... i guaranfuckintee i have a better experience watching the joy on a strangers face when they get miracled than any cock-drip scalper does with their extra forty fucking bucks... scalpers are not as bad as gatecrashers, but they are fucking close...

i guess you never had the opportunity to show up at a Dead show with 50 bucks, knowing that there were 25 dollar tickets at the box office, to find that some ghetto scalper who gives zero fucks about Jerry Garcia or you or anything other than making a quick buck has swooped in and scooped all the tickets & is now charging a hundred bucks... if you had you'd understand why yr "scalp or be scalped" attitude makes me want to murder kittens...

money is a horrible master to serve...

 I was just sayin if it isn't this guy scalping it's just going to be someone else

I hate scalpers as much as anyone, but it just comes with the territory. Where there is money to be made you are going to have money hungry people fighting for an extra dime.

If there is a particular artist you would like to see live, then you need to take the responsibility to check their website often so that you know when they are coming to town. You can even add artists to a favorite list on ticketmaster and they will notify you when tickets are going on sell for that specific artist.

I know this may seem impractical to some, but it's what you have to do if you really want to see a show and not get screwed over.

I've never had a problem getting tickets when knowing the date.

Obviously they can't be that good of fans if they don't even hear about it til a couple days before the show.

I've bought tickets on multiple occasions when they go on sale and never ran into this problem. You generally have to type in a captcha (if not more than one) and depending on the show there may be a limit to how many tickets you can buy.

Yes, scalpers are buying tickets when they go on sale, and generally buy as many as they can. This alone doesn't prevent an actual fan from doing the same damn thing.

When I used to buy vinyl a lot, if there was a particular release coming out that was limited, I'd pick up an extra copy & wait a few months before selling it at double what I paid. Same basic idea as scalping. That way I'd get my copy for free & someone who was sleeping on the original release would have a chance to get the record. Win win.

 You need to work on your reading comprehension. This has nothing to do with knowing when the tickets go on sale. The problem lies with ticketmaster being shitty & tickets going to bots. For example, I knew about Phish's fall tour before it was even announced. There were two shows I could make to. I got one no problem, but tried from noon until 3 pm nonstop on ticketmaster attempting to get tickets to the other one, and it never went through. And that was happening for most people. I still wound up getting in for face value cause I know people, and I never get shut out. Not everyone can say that though.

I went to one of the phish concerts that DS went to, but I didn't get to meet him cause I'm a dumbass who checks his email bi-monthly. Anyway, while the music wasn't really my cuppa, the overall thing was really fun. I was all high and shit.

If they really are dying to see the show, my couple tickets isn't like I tried to buy as many as possible in one phone call, but it's an upcharge for a hot commodity that would have been scooped up likely by a super scalper I migh as well take the gamble, I will at worst break even.

My company sponsors a car and no one ever wants to gothe races so they just give methe ttickets and a bunch of schwag to hand out. Dont ask me why the fuck you wouldn't want to go get hammered on the company dime and get paid for it. The family I sold them too had 2 kids and they enjoyed the shit out of it. I got the driver to come out and meet them and hooked em up with all kinds of signed schwag. Even had thier pictures with the car. My company dosent give a damn what I do when I get down there.

I am a nicer guy than most and also not willing to gamble too close to the date of the show, so they would get a fairer price from me than other scalpers, but frankly this show isn't until very early March, MONTHS away and not really even at the most convenient time for ME to buy it. I am already getting scalped on convenience fees, I may even sell one ticket at the highest price I can get it and just go to the show with the other one.

Particularly if I can not get pushed down because someone would be buying both, but I can get someone willing to go more for one than someone on two, but that is unlikely,

Three seperate fees, one just to get it on paper, 10 bucks just to be able to hand off a ticket where I would usually will call instead and just show up at will call window, no tickets to lose. Obviously this is to more to cut into peoples money than mailing costs, otherwise I wouldn't owe it per ticket. It affects scalpers too, I can't pass off my information otherwise. So they pay.

Whoever knows when bigger acts go on sale? So few people catch it at the right time, especially when you don't expect it several months in advance like 4 and a half months is kind of advance.

I guess I was paying attention and just hope I can maybe find out when Nicki Minaj tickets go on sale, fuck those guys :lol

Generally artists go on tour after releasing a new album, so it really isn't that difficult to know when you should keep your eyes open for tickets. The whole experience of going to a live show is being scalped. $8 for a beer, $5 for a bottle of water, $20 to park, etc. . .

As it's been explained, it's not about "keeping your eyes open for tickets". There's been shows I was aware of months in advance and on the morning when I sat there on the Ticketbastard website a half an hour early refreshing the fucking page every few seconds as the hour approached, entered the goddamn captcha as fast as humanly possible once they went up, only to find that no tickets were available the same minute they went on sale, nor any in the minutes and hours to follow.

Then I've gone down to the venue the day of the show, hoping to buy one from someone on their way in, and seen a team of scalpers selling these same tickets for quadruple the price or more. This team of subhuman shitstain scalpers had a manager-scalper walking around with a clipboard to make sure they were fucking music lovers over to the fullest extent. Anyone who buys multiple tickets to a music performance with the intent of selling at an inflated price is a piece of shit.

Damn I never heard of such organized scalping

The same minute, I guess they had the inside track and gave everyone the shaft :crankey:

I am talking two tickets here, not a gazillion, and being part of a squad

I wonder if these are drug involved people, I know maybe they turn around a bunch of tickets to make some extra money with their crews or something by diversifying

If it had made no sense then I would have said so... obviously

I thought you might be talking to someone else, or making joke as people on here do from time to time.

It's not like it takes more then a millisecond to select the person you're responding to in your post or anything.

On my end it may have helped if I read the first page, but I didn't.
