More Honeys?
    #19145381 - 11/16/13 01:43 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

I have found both ringed and ringless honey mushrooms in my neighbor's yard. He had a few hickory trees cut down about 3 years ago. Recently there has been a fresh flush of a different type of mushroom that has all the hallmarks of a honey but seems to be a combination of the two.

The spore print is white and the ring is ragged and nearly absent. I know that honeys are a species complex but what are the chances of 3 different types in the same yard?

Here are some pics of what I'm talking about.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. Ever heard of a type like these? How would I go about determining whether or not they are worth eating?

I also thought they may be A. Tabascens but I picked that variety from this spot before. Tabascens are twice as tall but have similar growing traits. The thing that's throwing me off is the ragged ring.

What's got me concerned is the possibility of picking a Galerina accidentally. Do Galerina Autumnalis flatten like in the picture of the lawn and grow on buried, decaying roots under grass?

I hate to let edible mushrooms go to waste but I'd gladly toss the whole lot to avoid dying.

Well, the best way to avoid dying from eating poisonous mushrooms is to post decent sized pictures here and get them identified.
216px × 162px is absolutely tiny, but I can tell you those are definitely an edible Armillaria species.
