G2G question

2 questions
I have a few small jars that are colonized using brf and vermiculite and I wanted to transfer those via g2g to some WBS qt jars that i am just about to finish.
Can I do a g2g with brf & vermiculite into a wbs jar? also.. Must i put holes in the lids of jars that I plan on doing a g2g with?
Thanks for your help! You all are super.

Not a good idea. In theory it can work, in practice there are too many contam vectors. There are many contams trapped in the dry verm layer and it will be very difficult to separate those from the clean mycelium. It has been done but has something like a 5% success rate.

All jars need GE for mycelium to grow. With grain jars we leave space to shake the grains, so we cannot use a dry verm layer. This means we need holes with filters on our grain jars.

What theory?
It doesn't work, period.
OP, you don't want to dump a whole cake into your grain jar. Just inoculate a master jar of grains and then use that for G2G

I wish I could find the post, I'll look for it but there was a guy on the fora a few months ago who asked if he could inoculate other jars with brf cakes. Everyone told him not to do it but he came back a week or two later and claimed it had worked for him. I think he only inoculated two or three jars though.
Then again, pics or it didn't happen and I don't remember him posting follow up pictures.

Guess I was thinking way back to this horrible tek which has fail written all over it. OP it doesn't work, period. If you want to G2G, use grains 2 grains.

There we go. He used 1/4 pint jars though.
Edit: I am by no means advocating this. OP don't try. One lucky SOB doesn't mean you will be. I just remembered that it had been done before.

It looks a bit iffy in that jar. And I think we've all seen jars that look ok but are still contam'd
He probably never got fruits from it.
That is piss-poor procedure

I once caught a 40 pound catfish, but it got away. I couldn't get a picture in time and I was by myself.
The only way to G2G a BRF jar with any hope of success is to make one with a proper filtered GE,thus bypassing the contaminated vermiculite.
Even then, you will struggle to keep your cake sterile while breaking it up for transfer.
The risk does not seem worth the effort.
