This may not help much but I would advise against eating raw fish sushi in Japan!

Why on earth would you advise against that? I plan on eating sushi until my stomach explodes.

I'd say I'm from America if I went, why would I lie? Shit on them if they are too dull to realize that not all 300 million of us are the same, ya know? People who look down on you just outta what country you were born in aren't worth your time anyway.
I would definately ride the bullet train and go to shitloads of jazz clubs. Sounds like a great time. Post up some pictures if you get the chance

I feel bad for the poor Japanese guy, just trying to get his party on, gets roughed up by dudes for something he didn't even do! Crazy honour culture over there.
Awesome place though, my brother in law lived there for 2 years. He loved it

Fluke parasites. I don't think you would want to get them. They can be hard to eradicate and they can live throughout your body in your liver and intestines, etc.. People can get infected with them through food like raw fish. http://www.cdc.gov/parasites/gnathostoma/faqs.html ;

Shit. I thought you were gonna say because of all the radiation. Fluke parasites? That's extremely rare and you probably have a higher chance of getting that through eating beef. I've never heard of anyone getting infected with that, and didn't in Japan. Unless you are eating raw freshwater fish, I don't think you need to be concerned with that.

I remember seeing these, really cool. I'd love to go to Japan some day. Isn't it pretty expensive? Or I guess in particular I've read Tokyo is expensive.
As far as sushi and parasite shit I bet a million different things could give me a parasite every week in everday life but that's not stopping me from going outside. I've never had sushi but want to do it very soon.

Japan is very expensive yes. Don't go there without money.
The food I ate while in Japan was the best food I've ever had in my life, no joke.

I know they're rare but I've seen on a few health forums of people that have them. I know a lot of parasites may be rare but I'd rather avoid them as much as possible personally. I wont even drink unfiltered sink water now (cause of fluoride too) or salad that wasn't washed properly. I think you can also get tapeworms from beef too.

Like I said... unless you are eating raw FRESHWATER fish, I don't think you need to be worried about that parasite.
Stick to saltwater fish for eating sushi. As a general rule of thumb.

The sushi will be worth the risk of a parasites to me.
I cant go to Japan and avoid eating sushi man... I love sushi..
Speaking of food what is the easiest way to know what your ordering? I would really rather get the local experience and distance myself from where a lot of the tourists eat. Are there easy to use guides dedicated to interpreting menus or anything?

Most restaurants menus have pictures of the food. You can point and order
Also use cash. Hardly anyone uses credit cards.

Interesting. Guess I'll keep that in mind if I eat sushi later on. I usually eat cooked salmon and vegetable sushis anyway. Not really the same as other kinds of sushis but I think it tastes pretty good anyway.
