Most sterile way to allow gas exchange?

I am going to start my first one at some point, and I was planning on using micropore tape after inoculation and during incubation.
I see some people say that micropore tape is not so great.
What should I do?
I'll probably do the pf tek first.
Also, I prefer to use as many "organic" items for everything as possible

I have not even completed one grow so I am no expert but I researched this topic quite a bit because I had the same question. With PF tek you want to use no tape. Boil/PC your jars with aluminum foil on top take it off to innoc and leave it off. Unless you are in an area with lots of high contams you will be fine with the dry verm layer protecting from contams.

For grain jars polyfill is your best bet in my opinion. Some people use tyvek, but I have always used polyfill with no complaints. Can't really help you if you're doing the pf tek though.

Are you doing cakes? Because all you really need is a half-inch dry verm barrier all the way up to the lid, and micropore on the lid is redundant. That's not to say you shouldn't use it--if you're anxious about this, then redundancy might be exactly what you're after.

If you make lids that have a self healing injection port and a filter made of ez felt (available at michaels, only a dollar).

For grains synthetic filter disk (sfd) is the way to go. Once you start using sfd you'll wonder why you didn't use them sooner
As already stated if you're doing cakes then the dry verm layer is all the filter you need

Polyfil works often, but is nowhere near a "best bet". SFD's are the best bet.
