Help with mushroom maturity time :)
    #19142593 - 11/15/13 08:23 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Hi,

I'm new to the forums and mostly new to mushroom hunting too.

I have been looking around, but haven't been able to find threads which talk about how long it takes mushrooms to mature?

I don't mean in relation to the weather, but more like estimates on how long they take to go from stage to stage.

For instance, how long do you think it would likely be for these mushrooms to reach maturity?

It can vary from species to species. The guys you have there are pretty far along. Typically when they start to produce spore is considered their "mature" phase. Just about all mushrooms fan out in some way during that as well.

I think you've got a Copornid Sp there. Pretty sure I butchered the spelling on that one >_>

Yeah, it's a Coprinoid (ink cap). Probably a Parasola species.

These and many other coprinoid species are especially evanescent and will often appear and
disintegrate within the matter of a day or even hours.

Other species again are much tougher and long lasting, I've seen specimens of some of
the larger Cortinarius spp. hold their ground for several weeks on end.

This year I witnessed a Polyporus squamosus peeking out of a tree stump in early May, and
it didn't give up until sometime in July, ending its days completely sun-baked.
