GIGO: Irrational thought = irrational action (generally)

Atheism is a position on a single issue. I would love to see critical thinking applied to ALL important issues. Instead we are largely guided by culture, tradition and emotion.

it is an interesting imo, what would such a society look like & what it would it mean to be guided only by critical thinking..?

is it even possible?

human religion & culture altho no doubt containing 'irrational' beliefs, when considered as a whole often have some kind of underlying rationality to their traditions & customs..
anyhoo share your (rational & irrational) thoughts :hehehe:

I never said I was frightened of dying.  There's no reason for it.  You gotta go sometime.

Look OC is so full of himself, if he got any more full of himself he would explode.

Let's just say even if he managed to hit the barn side of a broad no new life would result.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) launched the Diffusion of Effective Behavioral Interventions (DEBI) program which was charged with efforts to expand evidence-based practice in HIV prevention at a community level. That is, the DEBI program uses scientific facts and statistics in order to help prevent the spread of HIV at a community level.

Some of the DEBI program services providers ran into some snags and described it as such, "It just didn't look feasible to me and I'm by no means an expert, please, but I kind of had a gut feeling for what would work and what wouldn't. And that ,DEBI, I was never a fan of. The people that presented to us - please, no offense - were too white to me. They were too - they didn't seem to know my community and you are coming to tell me this is good for my community and you don't know my community/ How do you know it's good for my community? Tell me how you came to that conclusion. So I was not - I had a lot of questions and concerns and comments" [fenake, 40s. direct service provision, 14 years with agency].

This is just another example of cultural norms VS critical thinking.

I think the DEBI program has potential but must operate with an empathetic attitude when exposing evidence based data. They can't be bullies.

With that said, I would say that critical thinking parallels the DEBI program. Sure you can expose facts but they can't be pushed on people. What is the rush? The Assimilation of evidence will happen as our country grows more liberal and understanding.
