Bolete gotta eat!
    #19141063 - 11/15/13 02:06 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

RESULTS: Suillus caerulescens. Not delicious. Little wormy. Will pass up in the future.

Habitat:
PNW on the ground, under doug firs

Gills:
Yellow pores, bruising brown

Stem:
About two inches long, inch and a half thick, brownish. Bruising blue when cut towards base.

Cap:
Big and wavy and brownish, kind of the color of a milk cap

Bruising:
Brown on the pores

Other information:
Been watching this guy grow out my window, in the mood for it, couldn't resist any longer, not sure about it's edibility though.

:crazy2:

Looks like a Suillus sp. to me. Was the cap surface dry or slimy to the touch? What type of conifers?

It's not extremely slimy, though it's been catching rain all morning.
Mostly Doug firs around here

Thank you, that was a helpful key.
I'm thinking Suillus caerulescens.
I cut the lower portion of the stem and there is some bluing there.
According to the web it's edible, but I've never eaten a bolete of any kind before.

Anyone agree?
And if you do agree, is it safe to cook&glom, or should I just cook a little and try it?
I'm googling, of course.

Yes, Suillus caerulescens.

It is safe to eat, perhaps good to peel the cuticle though.

Thanks, Alan, I'll do that.
I read they're not that tasty, but whatever... college.
If nature made it, I'm into it.
