Go to a state school part time?

Or a state school which offers accredited online degrees.

I like the small state schools in PA. They are affordable - especially if you are a resident of PA - and offer great education.

True story.

I was a shit student during high school but I got slapped in the face when I realized what upper level classes expect of you in college, combined with working fulltime. It's a bitch out there. But it's an exciting challenge.

Pretty much this.  OP, everyone has a bit of trepidation entering college, but to have it be so overwhelming is not normal.

Maybe college just isn't for you?  Might be time to consider an alternative.  Looking back, college life was so simple...

I think instead of going to college every kid should spend a few years off the tit either working a shit job or in the armed forces.

Bet we wouldn't have so many stupid liberal arts majors.

Nothing wrong with some liberal arts once in a while  Helps you gain a wide perspective on many different fields of study.

On the other hand, FUCK the armed forces. Yeah I get it we need protection blah blah blah, but I'm not risking my life for the same government who doesn't think I'm old enough to drink a beer.

Yeah, because we need people to develop shitty attitudes and an aggressive stance towards anything they don't like.
The easy way is molding individuals to make them fit into society as it is.
The challenging way is to gradually change society so that it becomes less sucky.
I opt for the latter.

Look I dunno exactly what you want out of life but I was in a very similar situation my first year of college and my problem was exactly that I didn't know what I wanted. I also was acing all classes with no problem but that wasn't the point. So at the end of that year which was 2011 I said fuck it. I did nothing. I only did what I wanted to do. I partied, I slept around, I was a bum. Except I wasn't.. not really. I was finding myself. A year and a half I spent like that. This semester I went back to school. I'm a few years older, but still young as hell and a bit wiser.. ready to tackle on my career

I'm just saying one can argue for or against college or tests but all that is trivial in the grand scheme of things. You gotta figure out who you are and what you want, and you seem to have a need for that right now.

I myself was way too immature to tackle college seriously at 18. Not everyone is like me, but I know Im not alone either

Don't work too hard in High School. You'll just burn yourself out, and ultimately none of that shit even fucking matters.
Even drop outs can re-coup their G.E.D.'s and get onto a College track fairly easily.
What matters is what you want to do. And if what you want to do isn't all that advanced or sophisticated, then you can achieve your goal without all that A+, Honor Roll Student Bullshit.
If you dread the rigorous academic lifestyle, you might dread even more the type of career that it may be preparing you for.

Take this from someone who worked hard during High School only to become a complacent College dropout later on down the line. Focus on what you can learn, why it's important, how it relates to other things, and how you can apply it. If you focus on grades, merits, and all that stupid hoop-hopping bullshit it will just burn you out.

Yeah, well, take it from someone who has gotten all his papers that it's pretty fucking convenient how they open doors without you having to prove yourself over and over again just to get to the table.

Don’t know what all you guys are talking about college kicks ass. Easiest the best time of my life so far.

Stop whining if you can afford to pay 30g a semester. you sound spoiled as shit, you can go to so many bitching schools for way less than that. I wish i could pay that much and go to UCLA or UW or some other shit high class shit.

Just don’t major in something retarded like sociology and you will be fine after you graduate.

The truthest truth I heard today. It's all about what you want, and if you don't want that get ready... cause all that reading and paperwork from college ain't gonna be squat compared to the job experience, to what you'll be doing for the rest of your life

SATs are a pretty robust indicator of intelligence.  1790 is nothing to brag about so I would suggest you stop doing so.  Here's what I see you doing.  Claiming an affirmative action preference because you are Hispanic enough.  I have no respect for anybody who claims that.  None.

So you really think some test that you take at 8 in the morning when you're 17/18 years old is a "robust indicator of intelligence?"

What's wrong with 8 AM?  Or 17/18?  I took them when I was 16.  I turned 18 in college.

They have been proven to be a fairly robust indicator of intelligence for most of the population.  Their are outliers for sure but that is true of any test for anything.

op, being tired, worn out and confused about where it's all headed is just part of life. it's undoubtedly going to be a major part of any young, productive person's life. i'm a full time student myself. i'm 35 with a whole other life and career behind me and i feel the exact way you feel, especially during crunch time. you just have to tough it out. life certainly does not get any less complicated as you get older.

OP everything will work out brother.

It's sad to see the coldness and unwillingness for fellow shroomerites to reach out a hand and try to lift this guy up a notch. He's clearly very distressed, having mental problems, and depressed.

Feel free to PM me if you want to talk more OP. I've got nothing to do for the next two days and I'd be happy to try to help you out of this slump in whatever ways I can. I went through the same shit, and most people do at that age but apparently everybody here is so good and righteous they have never been fed up with life.

OP I would seriously consider quitting drugs for a while. It's always refreshing just to have a break, and engaging in most habitual activities for long enough is probably not the greatest idea, especially when those activities have a direct impact on neurotransmitter ratios and other brain chemicals. It's easier said than done, but I really think a break might benefit you.

I'm not gonna go into a long and drawn out response here, but if you need help feel free to PM me I should be around for most of the weekend and would be happy to hear you out and do whatever I can to help.

good vibes OP

I dropped out last March with about a year left and I have been so much happier for it. Maybe one day I'll go back if I find I need to, but for now I don't ever see that happening. Fuck school, shit sucks.

i tried college twice before i was ready for it. once when i was 17 and once when i was 22. when i was 17 i was too interested in partying. when i was 22 i had a respectable career underway and chose to pursue that. i don't regret that decision i made at 22 either. but now my circumstances have presented me with another opportunity to give school another shot, and for me, i think it'll be one of the best things to ever happen to me. for all the frustration, exhaustion and heartache i truly love learning. and while i may piss and moan and sink into despair in the moment of the crunch times, after i get through it i know i've grown in some important way. and the personal enrichment that i've derived from my studies is beyond value. school has truly opened up a whole new world of ideas to me.

op, i wouldn't write off going to school. but it's a big commitment, and if you aren't ready to make that commitment just yet i say save it for when you want it. because you really have to want it to get it, especially if you have to work full time. i was just promoted to full time with my day job. while the money and benefits are going to change my life drastically for the better, it greatly diminishes the resources i have to focus on my academic obligations. but it can't be any other way, so i gotta suck it up and deal. i don't have any semblance of what could be called a social life, and when i hit the end of my weeks i feel like i've been run over by a truck. but it could be worse.
