Another OMNIA video, Old Man Tree.
Just thought I'd share this one with shroomery because it is based on a shroom trip that he took in which a tree spoke and sang to him. ;P I think it's a beautiful song.

And the amazing singer/songwriter, Damh The Bard!
Green & Grey
The Pipes Of Pan
This guy really impresses me! He is an avid Pagan/Druid and bard. As far as I know he only plays the guitar butI believe that he MAY a traditional oud or some other lute and a traditional mandolin, possibly flutes as well but that's only on his recordings as far as I'm aware. The live performances that I've seen (including an awesome song performed at a protest, I believe the name of the song is Robin Hood, look it up! It's amazing!) every song that I've heard was in English. Damh style is "bard" as in the traditional ways of bard folk meaning musician, poet and storyteller and he embodies that role with every fiber of his being and soul. He music is so simple and beautiful and spiritual, it can move mountains. This guy is really great at what he does! I highly recommend this one. He reminds me of Bob Dylan, if Bob Dylan had been an English, Pagan, Druid/bard. Haha.
Sidenote; I've also seen his website and his YouTube channel and I highly recommend checking it out. He even does some free online lessons if you're interested in learning guitar in DADAGAD (Celtic) tuning. I'm looking forward to learning some of his songs! He seems like a really down to earth and good guy in general, I definitely support his vision!

Check out the last review, damh the bard. His stuff is awesome! I think you'll really like it. He's very chill to listen to, it'd be great stoned. The next band I'm reviewing will be after I get some sleep but I think it's gonna be a good one and the one after that is gonna be a HEAVY metal pagan folk band. They claim that their the original " pagan metal folk" bands.

Elane
My Ivory Fairy
Paperboat & Silverkite
This band focuses on an ethereal music painting a surrealistic landscape with female vocals occasionally backed by make vocals and acommpanied by guitar, violin and flutes. They've got quite some talent but again, this is soft lovely music and I am a manly man who is only on rare occasions in the mood for this music but it is absolutely beautiful and makes great background music for you sensitive types. Great band though!
The next band is pure medieval metal so get ready!

Eluveitie, heavy metal THUNDER!!!
A Rose For Epona
Lament
This band I found highly interesting although unexpectedly so. The main two languages that they perform in are English and Gaulish which is an ancient dead language. I typically don't like heavy growling in metal but this bad is so awesome that I can't deny them for that! The male usually leads but they also have a female singer who has a gorgeous voice and i prefer her singing to his growling but their voices together are dramatic and beautiful. The band typically relies on the ELECTRIC guitar, electric bass guitar, and drums like most metal bands however they also play tons of traditional instruments such as flutes, bag pipes, hurdy gurdy, harps, mandolin, fiddle ect. I really love this bands style, it's truly unique and if you like metal and medieval music then this is the perfect band for you. Highly recommend checking them out especially you metal heads.

Bad ass, WARDRUNA!!!
Helvegen (Way To Hel)
Dagr
This bad ass band is the ultimate Nordic Vikings of the folk pagan medieval music scene. Their personal background is highly interesting and I suggest you read upon it. It's based of Nordic runes and folk lore. They only two albums and its rumored that they may only come out wih one more but hopefully that isn't true. One for each rune. The style of this band is all about powerful drum beats and vibrating powerful chants with an occasional flute or string instrument or female singer. This would make awesome meditiational music. The language is not English but it doesn't matte because English doesn't suit Nordic chants. Anywho, this band is so awesome I just bumped them up the list so I could review them quicker. Oh and you may recognize some of their songs from the history channel. Anyways, enjoy!
PS. OMNIA also had electronic remixes that I forgot to mention if anyone is interested. I'm putting some of these bands on my favorite band playlist and so far OMNIA, Faun, Damh the Bard and wardruna is solid on there, I may put rapalje, valravn, elane and eluveitie. I need to do some more listening to see how they truly fair. The ones that made it hit my soul just right.

Hey GreyMorph, this is quite a cool thread and I find some of my favourite projects in here. Good to see you posted Wardruna already, otherwise I would have done so right now. Their music moves me more than any other.
You seem to be quite fond of Omnia, have you had the chance to see them live? I find that their spirit has decreased in the last years, but they're still very good.
Here in central Europe we have a HUGE scene evolving around folk music and medieval reenactment. Bands like Omnia, Faun or Corvus Corax are widely known and thousands of people name them as their favourite music. If you ever happen to spend a summer in Germany, I can recommend some festivals to you: -Castlefest would be my favourite, it started with Omnia as the core element but now also features Faun every year and, in fact, almost every other band you posted so far. It's in the Netherlands just south of Amsterdam, every year at the first weekend of August. -Festival Mediaval takes place in early September in central Germany not far from the border to the Czech Rep. It is one of the largest festivals of the German "medieval" scene and regularly features the best bands. Sometimes they do miracles, like this year when they convinced Garmarna to play again after years of hiatus. -MPS is a travelling medieval market that sets up camp at a new place every weekend. Omnia can be seen regularly there, along with all the good things medieval markets have to offer like reenactment shows, horseriding, craft stores, workshops in forging and countless other things.
Enough writing, here you have a rather unknown band to enjoy: Virelai from Denmark.
And another video from Castlefest to show you how beautiful it is there.

I've watched videos of several of those festivals online and they look awesome. No unfortunately I haven't been to see OMNIA live. In America these bands aren't even recognizable. The only state that they've toured to is Oregon which is the further most from me. Lol. I neer thought I'd navy Europeans but here I am. I've read a few comments about opinions on OMNIA spirit decrease. What makes you think it's decreased? Anywho, I wish I could come to Germany. I'm also wanting to learn either Greek or German. I love the language.
Anywho, glad to see another fan!

Omnia was a project of several masterminds melting their influences into one giant orgasmic music. Then, about five years ago, one of the members, Steve Sic, steered towards becoming more visible as a front man, using the band as a platform for his own political views. It became unbearable and led to the departure of very important core members, most importantly Luka Aubri, but also Joe Hennon and Mich Rozek. Nowadays Omnia is not a band of equal members, but something like "Steve and band". Their musical quality nowadays is nowhere near the glory of everything until the Alive album, and what is most annoying is that the concerts are very predictable, everytime you see them these days it's exactly the same songs with exactly the same introductory sentences. It's really sad because this used to be one of the very best bands around. But yeah, everyone who has known them long enough to be able to compare old Omnia vs. new Omnia pretty much shares this opinon.
As for the festivals, they're absolutely amazing and I'm very grateful to have the chance to attend concerts of my favourite bands all the time - not only folk music, but also metal with bands like Eluveitie. I've met several people who immigrated to Europe from other continents mainly to be close to the best festivals.

That's awesome!
And yeah about Omnia, I've noticed that actually. I always wondered why Steve is always in the lime light, why the past members left and I'm still unsure if Phil is even in the band anymore? I have noticed this but I haven't been a fan for log enough to know the details. It's also hard to find truthful information about them in America, even online. I still love the band but I definitely see what you're saying. I also have seen him use the same opening line for two different songs with a few changes in wording. I didn't like that, he could have improvised a poem and it would have been amazing.
I don't know. I'd like more info.

Phil is not with them anymore. He was a nice dude and fun to talk to, but left no artistic impression; on stage he always imitated Joe just like Daphyd is only imitating Luka. Long story short: even if they claim otherwise, Omnia are pretty dead at the moment. I really hope Steve gets back to normal, otherwise they won't be around for much longer. Their faithful Dutch fanbase, necessary for them to make a living with concerts, is getting smaller too.
On the positive side there are countless other bands that are in full blossom at the moment. Here's another one: the great Danish band Asynje.

It's sad to hear this news. I'm always a little late to enjoy something.
I also noticed that about Phil and daphyd, they rarely ever showed any personality onstage. Only a handful of videos show them really jamming out.

Yeah, just stick to old albums and videos when it comes to Omnia
Here's something more experimental: the project Qntal, fusing medieval songs with electronica.

Sorry it's been a few days, I got caught up in some stuff and haven't had the time but here goes...this band is actually coming out of the middle of the order that I had set but I've been dying to review them and since I haven't had a whole lot of time to listen to the other bands I figured Id review one that I'm more familiar with so without further ado...
BLACKMORES NIGHT!
Under A Violet Moon
Ghost of a Rose
An amazing band consisting of two members, husband and wife. The guitar player you may recognize as he was an original member of the Deep Purple rock n roll band. This band is amazing and I think the first video speaks volumes about them and these two haven't faltered from that same beautiful sound that we love so much. So I highly recommend that you keep up with this band. It is also one of the most popular out of those that I've mentioned in this thread and more serious as well.
PS...have you ever seen so many beautiful women?!? I guess this genre only allows the most beautiful of women to sing in their bands. I'm not complaining! Enjoy, fellas. I will be posting another review tomorrow night.

This next band is called Trobar De Morte.
Sorceress
The Silver Wheel (Full Album)
Great band, soft sound, soothing style. It's like rain running down the window on a dark cloudy night. Beautiful and simple. As far as I know this band consists of a three musicians, a vocalist/keyboardist, a guitarist, and a drummer however I've seen pictures of three woman and four men and the live shows I watched had all those same folks, some playing recorder and hurdy gurdy ect. Maybe someone else can confirm this. Anywho, great band!

Daemonia Nymphe!
Invoking Pan
Daemonos
This band is highly interesting if you're into Hellenic polytheism or Greek philosophical music. This band is highly theatrical and they're as traditional and as bonfiade to the old way as they possibly can be. They use only traditional folk instruments and I'm fairly sure that they only use ones that were dominant or at least known to Ancient Greece. This music is the closest you'll get to recreating Ancient Greek so if you're interested in that then you better check this band out!
