good to know, thanks. where would you pick that up? a garden store? craft shop?

That depends on the jar. I've had specimens go moldy on me in tightly closed glass jars before, which is why I like to keep a desiccant in with them now.
Poor absorption from silica... Really? Huh. That is good to hear. I'll have to try a side by side and see what works better.
I'm not big on using the oven because ever since I met PF and he went on and on about how psilocin is heat sensitive and degrades really easy... I just figure, why add heat and risk losing any potency at all.
Old habits die hard, I guess.
The oven is only used to dry out the perlite completely in this situation. The mushrooms never go near it.

Got a nice big update for you guys soon. I have a bit of a noob question though. How long should I wait on a patch if it is about half-way to maturity? I only picked one cause the others weren't yet wavy and id like to let the spores drop a lot more. I'm thinkin 5 days?
The area they're in is so prime that 6 other patches have been found in the area as well. With three of them all next to each other, its magical! The only downside is how public it is. I had some guy ask me if I worked at the building the land was on and I said no then he proceeded to tell me about some cherry trees that workers were supposed to cut down. Yes! Even more patches in the future!
Happy hunting!

There ya go... good to see some compassion and blame being allocated properly. +1 to you, although the 50 gallon drum beer trap might lead to trampling or contamination w/ bodily fluids.

I'd hit 'em tomorrow, early as possible. If they've got decent mice beds, they'll survive and others over the weekend will most likely do a lot more damage than someone who knew to ask that question. I'm in a similar situation myself, and I'm heading out tomorrow to get there by sunrise... Tiny pins will remain, well covered, but anything with at least a partially separated veil will come home with me.

Exactly what I was thinkin. The weekend warriors will be out and the leaves I did put on them were raised by growth so anyone looking for them might notice.
I also saw some of them were growing out of the forest so I might have to get in there a bit haha.

Speaking of... Anyone know the BEST way to keep the slugs away from your home garden patch? I always run into the same trouble randallsbook does. The beer traps get a bunch of them, but it's never all of them and inevitably, lots of good maturing cyans get eaten by the ones that get passed the beer.

MJK used phosphorus. If i remember correctly he was very successful with the phosphorus, and probably more budgetable than what amounts to very wide electromagnetic engine of copper wire strewn haphazardly around your garden. tweakers don't steal phosphorus either, as far as I know.

Fence it to keep the animals at bay, then surround with a 4" wide 1"deep "moat" of Diatomaceous Earth. The fence will protect your animals as the Diatomaceous Earth will tear their pads apart and will hurt them if they eat it.(never tried it...just an idea)

I think red phosphorus was a key ingredient for meth back in the day. Thats so funny you said tweakers would steal the copper. I was thinking the same thing last night when my flood light was makeing my super thick gauge copper wire slug defense light up all the way to the street.Lol

Close not phosphorus but iron-phosphate, I get it from Wilco.
I use this kind mainly because we have chickens, a dog, and some cats, I couldn't in good conscience leave out poison. Still it's fairly cheep and goes a long way. Once it has rained a few times it starts to get moldy, doesn't bother me.

Just remember that the iron phosphate baits contain cheilating agents which are somewhat toxic. Not greatly so, but still appreciably, and particularly in that they help reduce iron phosphate to elemental iron which is toxic.
This is not a major concern, but I wouldn't eat a box of the stuff.

Shotgun shells loaded with rock salt seems to work well for cattle farmers in remote ranches in north/central Florida for a good 3-4 months before season kicks off here... and if you haven't picked and munched dirty south cubes after a hurricane or tropical storm touches down, you'll never run short. I mean what I say.
I lived with 3 cats who became sentient beings after drinking ~3/4 of a gallon of mushroom tea from the area.
