More Spores = more competing genetics = slower colonization?

Over in another forum someone replied to me after i recommended more solution for a pint sized jar of brf. He said that was awful info and would inhibit mycelia growth due to more competing genetics... anyone?

More spores does not automatically mean slower colonization.
It does mean more possible genetics, but this does not really mean it will be slower, it could be faster because there are more spores germinating.
Now when talking about a small, half pint cake, it can possibly mean bigger initial inoculation points, which could mean faster colonization.
But in all reality, less spore solution per hole per jar is better...It spreads the spores further.
I recommend just a few drops per hole per jar.....then it is even possible to refill the syringe with sterile water when there is only a single cc left.
Then you can stretch it even further. It is very possible to get fast colonization this way, with good genetics, but with MS it is always a crapshoot regardless.
I hope that made sense, lol...im high as fuck right now....

I would agree overall with the assertion that more spores are harmful to colonization time. Hacker and I may disagree, but I feel as though the increased competition between strains provides no benefit, and has more potential to do harm than do good.
Edit: since I'm hammered, I re-read hack's analysis and he's pretty much spot on. Although it could lead to faster colonization, it likely won't.

Strains of the same species do not compete with each other, they grow together, colonizing the same substrate.
This is why we have to keep making transfers on agar to get an isolate.
Because a bunch of strains are growing together, and we have to single them out somehow.

Your argument is that a single strain performs better than multiple strains?

No, my argument is that multiple MS strains of the same species are not going to compete with each other over substrate, they will grow together....
They will even work together to create fruits.....because MS fruits usually have more than a single set of genetics....
Take a single grain from a MS grain jar and drop it on agar....there WILL be multiple sets of genetics present...they did not compete to get to that grain, they grew together to get there.
Then they still grow together on the agar, which is why we would still have to make transfers, and keep growing them out, until they start to grow apart.
Then it becomes obvious that they were growing together, and not "competing" in any way.
If they were competeing, we would just grab the winner and be done...but it's not that simple.
