Please help me save my sinicuichi and Calea
    #19138291 - 11/14/13 08:54 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Hey everyone, I'm a bit of a gardening Noob but I am have a garden at school and acquired live plants Calea and Sinicuichi from <SNIP>. I got the Sinicuichi in its box pulling it out almost all the leaves immediately fell off of it. I planted it in my garden a few days later and saw an earthworm  attached to the soil/roots area and wasn't sure if this was a good or a bad thing so I left him there because I didn't want to touch it and thought maybe the vendor put it there. The Calea arrived looking healthy but a few days later half of the leaves turned gray and withered away, I potted it in the garden two days ago but may have not done it deep enough because a triangle type shape where the roots get close to starting and it shakes really easily.. I'm gonna repot it tomorrow unless you guys think I should leave it the way it is because it seems to have signs of life since new budlets are forming on the sticks of the Calea, I cannot say the same for the sinicuichi though. I'm only gonna water these plants twice a week and they are in the sun all day so they should live right? Please help me save them its not for me its for future generations of this garden

Mod edit: Please read the EG rules.

Sunburn? I think the plants are getting too much sun too quickly. You aught to be able to acclimate them to your climate.

They have more than likely come out of a nursery environment where they are getting watered every day and they have been living under shade cloth. Putting them in the sun and not watering is a sure way to kill them. Pot them up into some nice potting mix place them in dappled light and water regularly. You don't want the mix sodden but you want it damp. I have never grown Calea but I do grow Sinicuichi and it is a tough plant. You really need to try and kill it for it to keel over. Sinicuichi will take full sun but it will need to be watered often if its in a pot or has just been planted out in the ground.
Get you plants looking healthy again and then have another go at planting them out.

Cheers
Got
