It's super hard to tell because it's a button, but I'd go with Suillus sp. due to the shiny cap (looks like the pine/conifer needles are glued to it) and the overhanging tissue on the edge of the cap that looks like there was a partial veil at some point. And the stem appears to have glandular dots rather than scabers. The fact that it's really squat makes me think possibly Suillus brevipes.

Neo--were you thinking of Slippery Jacks?

I don't know why anyone would be going crazy over them...they're kinda meh tasting. A good medium with which to eat your sauce.

Maybe they thought they were Boletus edulis? Don't look like that to me...

Oh hai Neo!

I don't know if I know you, btw...

The cap color, pore color, and stipe texture all point to Leccinum (which can have those remnants on the margin too). Plus the fact they were being collected...

I don't know if I'd collect Leccinum sp. to eat, they can give you the shits real bad. Eh...I'd probably do it anyway.

If it were the Birch Bolete or Aspen Bolete it would stain blackish when cut. They would also have to be under birch or aspen, though he didn't say where he found them. I was going by the leaf litter around shroom.

Having lived through an existence close to nature, one accepts the small and simple things as most important in life. Sun, wind, rain and snow. The sounds birds make, smells of fresh wild flowers. Love of all kinds, from friends and family, thy self and our neighbors. Beautiful sunrises to the darkest clouds dancing above in the sky. To forgive, learn, share and express. This is the only thing a man such as myself can ask for. What comes as the result is nothing short of the core of human existence, to truly live free in body and mind.
