Luck in less than sterile conditions?

How many people have had luck in sterilizing, inoculating, making spore prints, syringes, etc in less than sterile conditions? My first time at growing was a 100% success. The jars were sterilized by boiling, and they were inoculated in my kitchen in the open. I made prints and syringes which i am going to inoculate tonight. No idea if they are good or not. I am curious as to the issue of everything being 100% sterile and how much you can get away with bending the rule of sterility. Any opinions?

When it comes to making prints, "sterile" is subjective at best.
If you have fairly clean spores, you can get away with a lot of marginal conditions for your first grow. But if your subsequent prints are produced in the same marginal conditions, your results will be hit or miss.

I got 11 jars that i am going to inoculate. I think i will just do half and half. (i made two syringes) If the syringes turn out to be crap, ohwell. If not than awesome. Worse comes to worse i will have to order a new syringe and after growing try again with the printing and syringe process.

My own experience from microbiology lab would tend to indicate that there's a lot more leeway than people think. Stay vigilant, but don't stress too much.

My first grow was a horribly contaminated success. I look back on my method and have no idea how I pulled it off. I did not have anything fancy. Scrounged around and found some popcorn, some jars and some polyfill. Attempted to steam sterilize the jars. Then inoculated, everything was looking good until about 75% colonization when I got trichoderma. I took these and carefully removed the trich infested portions.
I then found some coir that was laying around, moistened it up then placed it in a zip lock bag and mixed in the colonized corn. I let this grow until it wouldn't grow anymore, I probably had bacterial contamination. Then I stuck an aquarium pump in the bag and hung it up in a window for light. When all was said and done it gave me 7 flushes before trichoderma moved in. The fruits were small and mis formed and each flush consisted of no more than 6 mushrooms. It was successful enough to pique my interest in mycology. And it taught me what mushrooms will look like in sub optimal conditions.
That being said, do your best to keep your work place and equipment as clean as possible. I highly advise against attempting to save something contaminated with a sporulating fungus. The spores can and will stick around and get in your future projects. Somehow I got lucky and the trichoderma did not become an issue for me. I'm pretty sure I had a patch pop up in my last monotub but it seemingly disappeared over night and I successfully fruited 4 flushes from it with no issues.
Working with spore prints in open air is risky, If you can gather up the materials for a still air box. Using a still air box will give you a much cleaner environment to work in. Best of luck in your endeavors this can be a rewarding hobby.

I am going to use the second syringe today on my last batch of jars. Hopefully it all goes well. If not i got a few Penis Envy syringes coming in the mail. Do any of you just say screw the printing and just order syringes?

It would be silly not to take a print, if you have fresh mushrooms, to then just order more spores.
It is very simple to make a syringe.

All you need is 1 big print and it could possible make hundreds of syringes.
10-20 is more like it, but hundreds is possible.
