Green/dark blue discolorations
    #19136998 - 11/14/13 04:38 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Hi hi,

I purchased one of those 'water and wait' mexican mushroom set.
I harvested it once, being as sterile as possible.

Now, I harvested the mushrooms growing to the side too, and I did a pretty terrible job at it. As in, I accidentally broke off a few of the shrooms - leaving the base of the mushroom remaining. I just left the bases there.

The remaining mushroom base(s) gave off a discoloration. But right now I'm not sure whether it's contamination or just discoloration:

I'm not too worried about having to throw it away, but I figured it'd be a good experience for next time.

Thank you in advance!

Kaluro

That does not look good at all.  Can't really tell what the stuff on the side is, but it looks like the beginning stage of trich on the top (that very white patch).  If any of the mushrooms were close to the to contams I would not harvest those.

The bases that were left will most likely give off a blue color but that is not a contamination.  That is just due to the oxidation of one of the chemicals in the mushrooms, usually called blue bruising.

I would recommend getting some of your own jars and doing your own brf grow.  You will learn a lot more that way and most likely have better success in the long run.

I just might try doing everything from scratch myself.

I made two more pictures since the first ones were really bad: http://imgur.com/hRMZUET,8t0LsG7#1

Also, that white patch on top appeared in like, 3 days time. At least that's my guess. I water the shrooms every 2-3 days and I had not noticed that patch up until today. I take it, it's not mycelium? :P

Thanks for the quick reply ^_=

It is mycelium, but not mushroom mycelium...  It is the mycelium for trichoderma, a different fungus and likely cause of many growers contaminations.  Give it a day or two and it will most likey turn into that green color you see in other places of that tub.
