For some reason alot of your pellis look waaay different than mine. Are all those pics pellis? Like the round top ones and the small blue topped ones dont even look like any pellicullosa ive seen pics of.
Mine are all really tall and skinny with conical caps while alot of yours are short and stout with wierd shapes.
I see so amny of them, i choose some of the coolest to photograph. I see literally thousands.

Wow joust
Pells I have found might have some blue at the base of the stipe but those are amazing
Would go as far as wonder if those are not another psilocybe species???
I know there are variations in this species but... Wow
Ps.. Gorgeous photos as always

Does anybody have a few links they could share about variations of species? I'm curious how genetics play a role and what not. Why some species show so much variation but others don't. Please help!
I'm going out for pellies today. Hopefully my new camera gets here in time.

I know this is not what you want but some reading: http://www.shroomery.org/12509/Psilocybe-pelliculosa http://www.mushroomjohn.org/psilocybepelliculosa1.htm
I have see someplace a var. p. Pellliculosa pellliculosa
Also.... With some Known 200 species of psilocybe mushrooms... And very little research going on... Possible we are seeing species that are not pells Psilocybe silvatica and washingtonensis are sometimes mistaken for pells...

I asked before and got no replys, Can I see some habitat pics or the ideal age of clearcuts for them to fruit in large numbers?
I think all the clearcuts Ive checked are too old or too new, and i only find a couple dozen after a few hours of searching. some clearcuts looked really promising to me but nothing to be found. it seems (in my small amount of experience with them) that they need a spot that is shady and retains alot of moisture.

1-2 years after clear cut... Mostly in the road beds... Good to have some alder saplings or other non conifer trees

Can find lots

At least you know where and how to find them now. I'm dying to see what kind of pictures that badass thing produces. You can borrow my tripod if you want, I doubt I will be using it this weekend.

Pell hunt 970 ft Olympic national forest
Habitat... Clear cut
First ones
Good view
More
Couple of NOT pells.... Bad mushroom!!!
Pells on the left and not pells (Hypholoma) on the right

This area is about a week away from massive fruiting. Lots of pins and small pells. People hunting need to be very careful... Besides the galerina several look a likes ... Hypholoma sp. Look like pells when small... Two Mycena sp. Were in the clear cut too.
