How to identify Dactylium in the casing layer vs. surface
    #19136394 - 11/14/13 02:34 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

I have what seems to be cobweb / Dactylium. Peroxide doesn't seem to be helping and the casing is not developing new pins.

In some areas it just killed the pins but has not colonized further on the surface.

I took a knife and sectioned some parts of the tray. The casing layer looks more grey than white. Spraying peroxide didn't seem to help, after multiple applications the problem came back.

Could there be something else at work here or is it just Dactylium that has fully gotten into the casing?

Okay, Can someone confirm this as cobweb for me? The trays haven't recovered... My main query is about when it gets into the casing layer if it will damage the substrate or is there also something else at work here?

You look for the spores that form on the cobweb mycelium. You can see some examples here. As far as I can tell from pictures that's just mushroom mycelium but you can see it better than me. If you sprayed peroxide that could be what damaged the pins. Reasons for mushroom mycelium growing from pins is usually environmental but it doesn't always indicate a problem.
