ID Request, P. stuntzii?

Habitat: Wood chips, P. cyanescens was growing in the same area
Gills: Brown, adnate
Stem: Hollow, up to about 1/4" wide, up to about 1 1/2" tall anulus present on some but not all
Cap: Pictures better than words, up to about 1" wide
Spore print: purple brown
Bruising: Bruises blue
Location: PNW
The ones in the 2nd picture are kind of weird they still bruise blue but the outer skin was very dry, turned white and made a lot of contrast with the blue. The stem of these bruised blue when cut. You can see them on the right side of the 4th pciture

P. ovoid?
dont quote me on it
might've found someone's patch, if both cy + ovoid are present in same vicinity.

I think it would be a weird place to put a patch cause its right on the side of the road at an intersection but maybe someone made a bunch of spawn and threw it on wood chips around town? If so, thanks!

I'm quoting you on it. These are probably Psilocybe oviodeocystidiata.

Yes they do; by all evidence. They're one of those species which prove themselves to love man-made environents, and even deliberate cultivation isn't the only explanation.

Considering how hard its been for me to find active species its amazing to find a new species (for me) by accident.

well definitely not schooled, that's why i put that in quotes. He was having a well justified panic attack about p. ovoids taking over the world, and I told him he's full of shit, basically, and now I'm enjoying this tasty foot in my mouth.

Yeah they're taking over, but not until I find them here in GA. I know they have been found here, but until Hashy findsum... They don't exist.

The thing I find odd is that I find many mushrooms that share the same niche in the same habitat, ie. cyanescens and allenii growing right next to each-other, which I thought wouldn't happen in nature, such as normally you only see one apex predator in one niche. Does this mean that we are currently in the process of one beating out the other?

That is the question at hand, and prior to the last couple of days, I would have said (and did say) hell nah. However, that seems more and more possible the more I think about it. No one can really say, but I still stand my ground that gosh darnit there's a whole helleva lot of work to do for whatever intruder species has it's aim on abolishing cyans.. They are a fucking force to be reckoned with. One point I made in another identical discussion is that there are surely so many patches of namely cyanescens what nobody ever finds, and if you put your mind to it, you could imagine just how prolific these things are, when we are really only finding a small fraction of that force.

I think that it seems likely that some mulch will be better for one than the other. Not all mulch is the same. The ovoids may become more common and cyans may become slightly more rare, but still be common. Hopefully places that could only support small cyan populations will support huge ovoid populations, and only the large cyan populations will last. My dream at least.

Sometimes it seems that allenii beat out cyanescens here, that could all just be my weird perception though. I hope I'm wrong because cyans are way cooler.
