How to pick mushrooms?

When picking mushrooms, should the white clumps at the base be pulled up as well or should just the stalk up be picked?

Grab at the base, twist and pull. Although some prefer cutting at the base.

I have noticed better all around health and performance cutting my shrooms off rather than pulling them. The stumps just melt back into the substrate and new pins often times form right over them on subsequent flushes. When I pull on them I find more often than not new pins will form somewhere else. It's not very scientific and is my subjective experience but cutting is easy and really has no cons.

I'm a noob to growing, but not picking. I know when i pick liberty caps in the wild, it's recommended to snip it off near the base so as not to disturb the mycelium. With Lib's, if you damage the mycelium too much, you could kill it....and lose the picking spot. I've put this into practice myself over the last 10 years of picking wild mushies, and it seems to be bang on. Only the spots i pick carefully are still producing anything worth visiting.
I wonder if it's the same for cubensis? Good luck with your grow!

i twist and pull, and cut. to those that only cut, how da faq?
my last tub was my most prolifent. i had no room to get in there and cut without really messing with adjacent fruits.
made me wonder, how does one with a full canopy do nothing but cut. i understand, you can cut on an angle, , i hate to butcher my fruits like that. however, i gather it is better than butchering your sub. does anyone have any tips and tricks however to cutting fruits from a canopy?
i gather one can cut on an angle and then when all is done, come back and cut off the excess. but ive never heard of this being done.
i like being really meticulous and twisting and pulling. i seem to be good at it. takes quite a while, but, ive never ripped much sub out in the process.

I get in the middle and start hacking near the base...clear a little circle to work out in all direction form. Bit messy to start but no big shakes - once you've cleared a few you've got daylight to work in

My first tub so far has not absorbed the stumps very well and after three flushes the stumps contained first. Idk only one tub so far but my two cents on this. I wanna see and side by side of twist and pull against cutting at base.

Hmm, I figure it as you're tearing off the band-aid over an open sore when tearing out a piece of the sub with the mushroom with twist and pull, though some species have known to fruit deeper into the sub, and others easily come out without much disturbance of the substrate.
Just a thought.
