Good luck getting such a job. A job like that is like winning the lottery.

yeah good luck with this. the market for programmers is very competitive. you will be competing with everyone who has been programming since they were 10 years old, plus everyone who has degree(s) in programming.
Are you kidding? You obviously don't know anything about the industry. The entire industry is STARVING for good programmers. If you're worth a damn there's a $70 000/year+ job waiting for you (entry level). I get head-hunted by big companies on an almost weekly basis. There is no better industry to be in in the world right now.
If you're any good within a couple years you'll be making over $100 000/year.

Nothin against bein a garbage man, but if you consider that job winning the lottery then you've got bigger problems IMO

We have the same garbage myth here in Holland.
Its decent pay for someone without any qualifications. Compared to proper jobs the money and the work sucks.

You are on shroomery... and you are asking other people on the forums for help?
I would suggest asking mother-earth for advice... bigger the question, bigger the question-mark.
Personally I would screw the work and become a hobo... living in a little cabin in the woods, surviving on the things i find outside

It is like winning the lottery. Its an extremely hard job to get. You have to be quite lucky to land the job. And once you have it you are set for life. That's the sense that I think its like winning the lottery. You make about the average US household income all by yourself with no expensive training/schooling plus you get mad benefits and have little to no stress, responsibility or chance of getting fired. It makes sense that their job is so good, they are a vital component to the running of the city. At a whim they can, and do, strike and shutdown the city for better pay and benefits.

The vast majority of jobs provide no intellectual stimulation. For most people this is a good thing. As for working with garbage... It sounds crappy, but around here they just drive the trucks and the trucks lift the garbage. They never touch it. They have retarded people working at the recycling plant actually sifting through the trash, thats a different job.
